You need something like Photoshop or paintshop pro. There are probably cheaper or free programs that offer many of the options you need but I'm not familiar with them.

I'm pretty sure the Chinese version was up to date, though they may have done the translation of the text when it was still 1.015 and that may appear on the main menu screen. The colour depth of your desktop will only matter if you play the game in a window. If you play full screen it will not matte...

Yes, I think so. You'd need to adjust the Legion building graphics so they fit the CoW city screen background colours. I'm not sure if they fit size wize - you'd need to check and make sure they matched the CoW format. You could copy the grass background tiles from Legion across to get a grassy back...

You can't set starting experience, but you could make each city produce a specific type of unit by editing buildings & city text files. If you made these buildings have 0 sell cost then they cannot be sold or destroyed when captured. Also porevent any new buildings for recruiting troops being built....

Your men heal for free when they spend a turn in a friendly city so this sounds like the biggest issue. Make sure you rest them and even sacrifice a city to save damaged units. Expand your mines, farms and lumber mills ASAP and that should fuel your growth. Don't be too cautious - you need to expand...

It's a nice idea but there are complications with modding for games that are not yet complete. It means releasing version before the game is ready and creating tools for 3rd parties to use which is quite time consuming. It could end up taking up more time than it saves, as we're more restricted in c...

Unfortunately there is very little freedom to allocate sounds in Legion. The "ISCAVALRY" value sets whther it uses infantry or cavalry noises I think & there is no way to add new noises without code changes.

Well done for getting elephants in the game :)

We can't say anything yet. Time pressures wont be an issue as they want to hold it back to get a chance to properly market it.

Open source does not mean free :) For Legion we'd give away the source code, but not the game data, so you would still need a copy of teh game to be able to use it. For T-Tex we'd give the whole thing away as it was never released. Open source would give people permission to modify any aspects of th...

The older games are much more about campaigning, and not really about battles as you have very little control. If you are into the battles, I'd wait for Legion Arena, but if you like a good campaign, Spartan & Troy are the latest versions of the engine, though Legion & CoW are fun if you like simple...

Making the campaign multiplayer is relatively easy. It's whether the individual battles are multiplayer that we have been evaluating. The amount of work is huge & it also makes more than a 2 player campaign pretty pointless as there would be way too much waiting around.

We're considering making the older games open source. Specifically Legion for PC and T-Tex for GBC. Do you think there would be any interest in this?

It would probably depend on the scenario. We havent done any explicit tests, all we know is the berserker mod is a lot harder than the normal game :)

At around a 9 or 10 to 1 scale each squad would represent a chort of 440 men - at least I think that's how many were in a cohort?

You can command up to 32 squads, though only 20 may take part in a single battle. I guess the answer is yes, you can have support units that are only used in key battles :)

New themes

You can now choose your theme, though there are pretty limited options right now! Maybe more will be added later :)
