Re: The new scoring system...

... and whilst we are on the subject of privacy and the like, thanks Chris for posting tagged links to my name and personal page all over Facebook just now suggesting that I've said; "the current field of Version 3 competitors in the UK has been increased by 20% by new players." That's not really g...

Re: The new scoring system...

I am ONLY concerned with stopping the falling numbers of FOG players from continuing. I've suggested changes to the aggressive scoring system and introducing handicaps. Can't see much in the way of positive suggestions from either Tim (an ADLG devotee!) or Dave. In fact, all they seem to have contri...

Re: The new scoring system...

I'd also note that keeping people's email addresses and sending them stuff is fine (as long as you have given them the option to opt-out), however, passing those details to third parties without specific consent is definitely illegal and will end up with you in court facing substantial losses if so...

Re: The new scoring system...

You are making huge assumptions about why people are not playing FoG. You seem to think that it is new or less experienced players that drop out - in fact, it's much more likely to be the more experienced players who drop out and as I've mentioned above, thats not because they aren't getting any po...

Re: The new scoring system...

You've spent a lot of time arguing with me over the superiority of ADLG over FOG on various online sites, Tim. Why are you so fervently opposing my ideas to improve the FOG scene now? However: I'm not sure there's a case for polling people who haven't ever played V3 in an event. Why not? They've obv...

Re: The new scoring system...

I think this illustrates your problem Chris. You don't like the answer to your question so you keep asking. If complaining about the way vital decisions on our rules system are made by 'the few' then yes, I do have a problem. This site is visited by a small (and very keen) cross section of the FOG ...

Re: The new scoring system...

I suspect asking players to cough up cash to enter an event before knowing the scoring system, handicap system, and which troop types will be permitted to be used would not be a particularly sensible way to encourage increased attendance ... Fair comment. Perhaps polling previous entrants before a ...

Re: The new scoring system...

Isn't the answer to poll the players who enter each comp which scoring system they'd prefer; whether a handicap should be used and, in the case of Britcon, whether polearms should be allowed?

Re: The new scoring system...

Well done guys lets really promote ADLG and MeG on this site. Where do you get that from? My only comment about ADLG was the scoring systems looks more bizarre than our new one. What's the point of having a forum for discussions if all aspects aren't covered? Lets slag off the people who have put t...

Re: The new scoring system...

I rather think that attempting to publicise FoG rather than having a huge argument over something that nobody is complaining about is possibly more constructive? I'm complaining about it! And there are others who agree - maybe quite a few others, certainly amongst those who don't get involved in di...

Re: The new scoring system...

And if you have an experienced player playing a newbie then it is very likely that the experienced player will win. As more or less stated previously. Changing the scoring system is not going to change that. Again true but artificially inflating the scoring system to supposedly encourage aggressive...

Re: The new scoring system...

For the record, I don't think the 3/1/0 system would work - for quite a few reasons. That doesn't take into account how much of your own army you have lost though. For it to be truly fair, you'd need to consider how much of your own army you lost. It does; your losses are reflected in your opponent'...

Re: The new scoring system...

I've tidied your table Definitely much better! :D For the reasons you gave before (players getting zero), I'm not sure a simple 3/1/0 system would work. However, I see a lot of merit in awarding one point for every ten percent you destroy of your opponent's army. It's really simple, properly reflec...

Re: The new scoring system...

The way of the world. Doesn't make it right, does it? At least we can do something to make wargaming a more enjoyable pastime, rather than pointlessly ranting on Facebook about corrupt politicians, etc (which I regularly do and which won't make the slightest bit of difference!). My observations on ...

Re: The new scoring system...

Chris in a nutshell here is the ADLG Scoring Thanks Chris. I worked out scores using this for the two games in my OP (using units lost as percentages of total units fielded). In game one (old system 11 - 9) it came to 42-39 in favour of my opponent. This suggests a close game, which it was, but is ...

Re: The new scoring system...

There are merits to the ADLG scoring system that seem to reward players for hard fought draws and for fighting aggressively.
That sounds interesting. How does it work?

The new scoring system...

So, we have a new scoring system designed, I am assured, to encourage aggression. Encourage aggression! Is that supposed to be some sort of justification? And will it help improve the dwindling number of FOG-AM players (which should be the main aim of changes)? Whoever dreamt this one up had little ...
