Either would work and thank you for clearing up the unit in a city (basically, a garrison). I've generally just left them on top to garrison so I've never seen the animations you mentioned.

How would that work? Training is delayed? Defense value added to city defense value? Unit comes outside the walls and is attacked prior to the city being attacked? I'm not sure if a unit that is ordered into a city even defends the city currently (one that is doing nothing - no training, etc). I see...

My understanding is that if they are being trained in a city then they contribute nothing, which seems a little extreme to me, as the men are there with their equipment and I'm sure they wouldn't site in their barracks or sit in the training arena doing nothing as the walls are being stormed. Question on units inside cities

Do these units factor into city defense? What if they are being reformed or are in training? Apparently ships are protected if inside a port but I think that is only because ports can't be attacked. My observations lead me to believe that those inside a city contribute nothing.

Yes, I did that and it has helped. I defeated the Antiganigs but the new Ardiaie/Athens federation declared war on me and stupid me, trying to keep the Roman juggernaut at bay, agreed with their demand to declare war on the German tribes and now I am being pushed back as I can't replace losses very ...

I managed to avoid food riots by using Tithe, so am now beginning my expansion. I have most of the original Macedonian land now and have made peace with Athens and Sparta is struggling with Ptolemy's armies. I have just accepted Ardiaie (sp?) to the Federation, so I now have control of small cities...

Thanks. I think I see what I was doing that kept things from getting better - I should not have raised the population support slider to 3/4. Still wonder how the AI is able to build so many warriors so quickly without food shortages. There may be something else I'm still missing. I'll try them again...

I see; is there a way to foresee this? Generally I won't buy below 20 gold but I do train below that level. I guess one way would be to subtract all trades for gold to get a base number and keep that above 1 gold (I'm assuming a trireme is the most costly unit to upkeep in gold despite the slave row...

OK, gold has been scarce, generally about 18 at the start of a turn; I think it was 4.9 at the end of the turn. I'll check the use screen to see if it is short. The other two don't apply. EDIT: 1 gold left, unit requires 0.6 gold, and no stop sign. Doesn't appear that any of the three conditions app...
