Re: UK year-end 2017 rankings

All the people I've listed, plus those already marked "Wessex" are from our club (so no splitters!).

Re: UK year-end 2017 rankings

Brendan Morrissey. There are a few other Wessex players also listed as "Mercenary" for some reason, despite having only ever entered as Wessex.

David Edwards
Paul Marsh
David Eggleston
David Hewkin
Patrick Morrissey
Steve Basting

Re: UK year-end 2017 rankings

How do I get them to list me as "Wessex Wargames Society" rather than "Mercenary"?

Re: Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

I haven't yet come across any, but then my reading on Tudor tactics has been subordinated to uniforms and equipment. Given so many instances of them being issued, should we not be assuming that they were used? Contact with the Dutch and French would have been influential, I would have thought.

Re: Cardiff - Godendag

Sorry, but I shall be unavailable this year; I was intending to take part as a "single" (as both my regular competition partners were unavailable), but can no longer make this weekend.

Re: Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

Well, that's their problem. If I'm having six units of LH in my Elizabethan army, they are damn well having some shooty capabilities. Don't care if it's pistol or crossbow, but it should be one of them. I can't help thinking that the army list designers have just looked at the 1540s Henrician organi...

Re: Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

OK, but still don't understand why no shooting option for Elizabethan light horse for use in Europe alongside the Dutch, or against an Armada-era Spanish army - a single pistol would at least be something. Just been reading some extracts from a two-part article in "The Arquebusier" by John Tofts Whi...

Re: Southern League round - Abingdon, 10 December 2017

At the moment, I think he and I are both coming (he will need an army though). However, my wife is going to have to go into hospital for a fairly serious operation at some point before Xmas, and if it is before the Abingdon date, both he and I will be out, as she will need constant TLC+++ afterwards...

Re: Cardiff

Given that the core of the FoGR playing fraternity is based in central/southern England, how many folk actually want to travel all the way to Wales to play the same people they could have a game against more locally? Would Firestorm Games miss us?

So lots of promotions in the Swiss army, then. (Good to meet you on Saturday, btw Nik - and good to see another Early Henrician army on the table. As I've said before, you seldom lose horribly (unless the dice go very bad on you), but it's very difficult to get anything more than a narrow win becaus...

Re: LAST CALL FOR FEEDBACK

We do have a 1683 competition at Abingdon on December 10. Given the players most likely to be involved, I'm not sure there will be any more comments, but something might turn up vis-a-vis dragoons, or something equally "later 17C".
