Re: Captured Artillery
I always liked the idea of capturing artillery as it happened historically, even though it is pretty useless. I can understand the appeal, but I can also see that there is a complexity involved that really can't be avoided. As the issue appears to be with uncontrolled artillery blocking mounted, wh...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
In discussions "in another place" we have concluded that we are unhappy about a solution such as the rerolls idea above that would need to be applied to infantry as well as cavalry (to avoid over complication) as it seems that the view is that infantry armour is just fine and that if any changes ar...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
Thanks Kevin, can you do me a favour? Can you do the same for my proposed change, being increases the wuality of the better armoured rather than decreases the quality of the lesser armoured? On a different (similar) note, do we want to incorporate Nik's idea of only counting if steady? I had the tho...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
Case 1: This is not that different form artillery firing but not actually causing hits for CT tests. Oh, it's pretty significantly different IMHO. By putting lesser armoured troops into the combat you INCREASE the survivability of the enemy. In this scenario, the player with the lesser armoured tro...

OK, how is this for a first draft suggestion for basing it off quality rerolls: Ok, Devil's advocate time (and I'm only putting this in for completeness... I think you're onto something Jhykronos): Example 1: Heavily Armoured Superior Samurai vs Armoured Average Bow armed Ashigaru. Under the old sy...

OK, how is this for a first draft suggestion for basing it off quality rerolls: Melee Table: Delete POA for better armor. P.35 Section "Battle Group Quality Rerolls": Replace the bullet list and the first paragraph after with the following: Quality Re-roll Scores ------------ 1,2,3 Elite 1,2 Superi...

Re: Special Tourney Rules
How about those ideas/commonly used themes that aren't included in v1.1 we create a table with various options, then tourney organisers can refer directly to that?

Personally, I'm not a fan of the 50:50 rule for foot or horse.

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
I would prefer an improved saving throw where a looser has better armour. Armour is not an offensive weapon, it doesn't kill anyone. Ok, here's the problem as I see it: Case 1: You have a line of 4 FA Gendarmes fighting 3 bases of enemy FA Gendarmes and 1 base of Armoured horse. The 4 bases of Gend...

I.e. If implemented, that other changes in the game for the improvement of 2 dice mounted may exacerbate any change and thus end up with uber troops or similar. Which other proposed changes for the improvement of 2 dice mounted are you thinking of here? The bits you must have been referring to belo...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
My quick thoughts on this are that the ideas of that Nik has put up are of value, but I'm concerned about double changing. I.e. If implemented, that other changes in the game for the improvement of 2 dice mounted may exacerbate any change and thus end up with uber troops or similar. I do see that th...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
I like the idea of armour helping saves, but I think the genie is too far out of the bottle to be able to use it. For example, you're a BG of Cuirassiers who lose vs 2 enemy BG's. One is same level of armour, one is less armoured, do you have a + or not? If you go with what YOUR armour is, straight ...

Re: Commanded Shot
The more I look at the Huguenot use of shot to support mounted the more convinced I am that it is not "commanded shot" as we are trying to represent and can be safely removed from consideration. As previously mentioned it is essentially offensive and not defensive and to all intents was a one shot ...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA
Realistically the nearest we've got to half POAs is requiring 2 grades of better armour to gain a POA for Mounted vs Mounted combat. Just thinking about this though, what this is saying is that a Cuirassier vs a League of Augsburg DH would be evens on POA, where a Louis XIV DH would be disadvantage...

Re: Dragoons
I can't think why we'd want to do that - as you say it adds some complexity and any benefit doesn't seem to me to outweigh that. My comment was more to do with an earlier view that the reins were all tied up and therefore hard to get to. If people are already 'confused' (by being non-steady) then '...
