Thanks for the comments. I decided to override NIS in the end and there were no problems. I guess I was being a little over cautious, but it wasn't impossible that the file could have been compromised.

i find the impact/melee combat results totally unpredictable. Sometimes, in the same situatione one gets wildly disparate results (e.g. attacker loses 150 defender 10 and then between similar units nearby attacker loses 10 and crushes defender). is combat so heavily dependent on luck? I think it depends on the scenario. Some are much easier than others against the AI, and on "strongly favour" AI some really give a good game. Unfortunately, I can't remember which, but if you work your way through them you'll be pleasantly/unpleasantly surprised at some point.

A different section of the rules has this:


Cohesion Multiplier
A disrupted or disordered battle group loses 25% of its attacks.
A fragmented or severely disordered battle group loses 50% of its attacks.

So fragmented is what we think it should be, but disrupted is 1 in 4, not 1 in 3.
