Re: FOG:It's a Knock-out 2. Tournament news, admin and queri

Just started the AAR now. OK, so this is the link for the AAR (after-action report) for what is probably the pick of the first round matches between massina_nz and Sharkall . . . http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=37513 I have asked the winner of this game to PM the result to me r...

DBA II/33 Polybian Roman

Composed entirely of Gripping beast miniatures, with a mixture of Mid-Republican Romans and Early Italians for the Hastati/Princepes/Triarii. Re: Eye Candy interlude

Just though I'd post some pictures of a MRR DBA army I painted last year - I think it's in theme :) Hope I haven't broken any rules in posting pics of non-Essex miniatures on the site....although I do have a lot of Essex miniatures http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5181/5652745415_d593e5372f_z.jpg htt...

Turn Twelve

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8030/7994339726_d790e9ff00_c.jpg My Spearmen implode – it was only a matter of time, they did better than I thought. I’ve really made some bad mistakes here, I didn’t counter the legions with my chariots (wandering off to the left of the map) and not using my spearmen ...

I choose a mixed terrain as I have a mixed army, who knows what we might get. I lose initiative, but I notice that either the enemy doesn’t have a field commander or very few cavalry. Sharkall and I had a close game in the LOEG (our only game) , although Sharkall did come in fourth to my eighth in D...

FOG KO Cup Rd 1 massina_nz v Sharkall

Well this game I’m facing the Moldavians (apparently the first time my opponent has used this army)– good army to choose as it has lots of options and lots of allies, so you can look to get match-ups versus lots of different enemy armies. Flexibility, in army composition is advantageous in an open t...

My spearmen have about reached their limit, having the chariots in reserve initially would have been better than sending them off to the left.

Both frontlines begin to dissipate, and mine quicker, the warning signs are becoming more apparent. I’m really handing this to my opponent, I’m playing the battle the Roman way, not the Carthaginian way.

I’m surprised by how well my garden variety African spears are doing, ...

I rout a Scutari unit, but miss out a chance of catching the roman cav at the bottom of the screen (A).

I manage to catch one legion (A) with a chariot, and one enemy LF (B) couldn’t escape, also managed to impact Jewish pikes with Sacred band (C). The Sacred band should be able to chew through the pikes now.

Re: Quick impressions

Is there a rundown available comparing this new title with Commander: Europe at War ? I also enjoyed playing Strategic Command (in a couple versions) but am now in the market for a new grand strategy game. Had Commander in my sights, but now Strategic War in Europe looks very tempting. Any thoughts...

Re: I thought I was doing so well until I met the Bear

Were you playing against the AI? If so that was pretty harsh, since effectively the Russians didn't really have Tank armies in 1941. I've played CEAW quite a lot, and the make-up of the Russian Army in 1941 and the French army in 1940, especially in regards to Armoured units had a long and healthy d...

Hi all. How are games coming along? Five days gone and I've seen a couple of challenges not being picked up, including my own. There's not much else going on so we should be able to move this forward I would think. Anders Sorry Anders, just been very busy recently, will pick up our match in the nex...
