They have to be on a hill.

We are trying to avoid representing Roman carro-ballistae as some sort of super-weapon.

Is there any noteworthy difference in shooting between Trebuchets, Roman CaroBallistae & Bombards, or do they just all come under Heavy Artillery? Roman carro-ballistae would count as Light artillery. (Though they can also have Heavy Artillery bolt shooters and stone throwers). The others are simpl...

Errata for Leeds

Rules Erratum - Clarification It has been pointed out that my editing has been less than perfect in version 5.01  Having corrected the error on the playsheet - I think JD is sending it out as V 5.01a - it now turns out that I also forgot to delete a contradictory paragraph in the main rules. ...

Yes. Light Foot can interpentrate anything. Mounted can interpentrate LF (but not when charging). Foot can replace light artillery in the front line. Other types only as specified in army lists..

Re: Infantry classes

And so, we??ll be able to read under some troops in army lists "Rhodian slingers can skirmish"e.g., isn??t it? No, there is no need to specify it in army lists. The rules are simple: Light Foot and Light Horse can always skirmish (i.e. evade). Light Chariots and non-shock Cavalry can skirmish (i.e....

Re: New Beta Version this week - changes from 4.06 listed he

Changes since V 4.06 5) Generals ??“ no longer have to be fighting in the front rank to bolster or affect CT of BG in close combat. If fighting in the front rank in close combat cannot affect CT or CMT of other friendly BGs. This is contradicted on page 52, para 3 of the rules, and, as previously n...

Re: Infantry classes

That is, what kind of things can skirmishers do unlike non-skirmishers in AoW? Essentially, apart from shooting - which appropriately equipped non-skirmishers can also do - they can evade out of the way of enemy charges. Of course, the evade and charge moves have a random modifier so, depending on ...

6 and 12 MU for the big stuff Si 6 for the small stuff. (Effective only. No long range) Sounds good. Would Roman Late Republican/Principate legionary light ballistas count as small or big stuff? Many thanks, Scott K. As the lists presently stand, the Principate ballistae can be Light or Heavy, the ...

Medieval knights get to fight effectively in 1 rank because they often formed up in a shallow "en haie" formation. Alexander's Companions did not do this, nor did other Ancient cavalry. (We know this from surviving Ancient manuals). Ahh, fair enough. Given that, how will chariots be modelled? Will ...

They have their own type - Cataphracts. (The Knights class in AoW is restricted to genuine Medieval Knights and men-at-arms). Why is the Knight classification so restricted? Alexander's Companions had that two-handed lance as their primary weapon, and thus had to aggressively charge to contact, sam...

So will we end up with special rules for special things, e.g. Valentine only gets to use scythed chariots on an odd numbered day but gets a positive POA on Thursdays and a negative POA on Tuesday, ala WAB. Something I will be very wary of. phil Absolutely not. We are certainly not going to have spe...

Back to the subject of knights. How are cataphracts (Kn(x) in DBM terms) modelled in AoW? Marc They have their own type - Cataphracts. (The Knights class in AoW is restricted to genuine Medieval Knights and men-at-arms). They are Cataphracts, heavily armoured, lancers, swordsmen. (The swordsmen cat...

Also goes some way to answering one of my other Q's Fortified camps exist, but do not count as Field Fortifications so do not give the enemy licence to dismount. They are paid for in points, assumed to have a garrison, and resist capture - a dice throw of 5 or 6 is required to capture a fortified c...

Re: Ships in AoW

Hi. One of the things that I like of DBM was how easily the game allowed sea warfare on the games. Reading Herodotus and Tucidides, you can see how important coastal battles were, involving land and see troops. I have not seen a topic concerning this. Are ships included in AoW? Not in the battle ru...

1) Ones that did so historically (As specified in the army lists)
2) Any if the enemy deploys field fortifications or war wagons
