Re: AAR: Diplomaticus vs Morris--Morris welcome!

I think we all agree that the game allows the Axis (and the Allies, under certain circumstances) to make use of the minor allies (and the Italians!) in ways that are not historically plausible. However, this is so built into the game as it now stands, that to impose a set of restrictions on the use ...

Re: AAR: Diplomaticus vs Morris--Morris welcome!

Finland only surrenders if there are too few Axis units in Finland and Finnish cities + rail depots are captured by the Allies. Tallinn (the capital of Estonia and not a rail depot) is also counted. If you read the history of the Finnish surrender you understand why. Tallinn is very close to Helsin...

Re: DD Stuck in Port

Hi, Ok you have an old version of the final version..... I sent an email out to the Mac beta-testers in May to get the latest since we fixed some bugs and Slitherine was not yet ready to start the installer for the PC side. So go to the Slitherine beta-tester FTP site and download the latest Mac ve...

Re: DD Stuck in Port

Okay, I followed your instructions, opened the 'v.txt' and copied. Here's what was there: v2.10 12/06/01 I'm not sure if it only happens when there's no space to place the unit. This is just what happened in my hotseat game. Metolius has the same problem, but his sounds a bit different. He had a shi...

Re: DD Stuck in Port

I can confirm this bug. I have a hotseat game going, and same thing happened. Details: I had units in and around the Ottawa port when it was time for the DD to spawn (Americans loan destroyers to UK, etc., etc.), so instead of appearing on the map, the DD showed up in the force pool with a 6 turn wa...

Re: Joe v. Morris Round II (Joe's AAR)

If Morris plays true to form, he'll throw the whole RN at any invasion fleet, regardless of losses. But then, M probably no longer has any surprises for Joe, who knows him all too well. It's interesting to me to see how this'll play out. Morris, after all, used to *want* people to do Sea Lion, remem...

Question re: French colonial troops spawning

Here is a quote from the Beta patch thread on this forum: 299. French units will spawn in Corsica, French North Africa and Syria if Italy has not yet joined the Axis and the French armistice offer is rejected. The strength is determined by the number of French steps remaining in France. Can somebody...

Re: GS 2.1 win/loss records--help up collect the data!

I would be happy to take the job on. I would suggest, though, that sending PM's may be more effective in actually getting people to submit their results. I promise to be diplomatic and polite. I don't think being intrusive is really an issue. It's just an email, after all, and it's only sent to memb...

Max, you're a beta tester, so this is probably best posted in the beta forum.

Too bad about those 2 BB's near Morocco. If he's wise, he'll sink them both in port.

Re: GS Beta Bug Reporting

By the way, did we ever resolve the bizarre oil glitch that occurred in the Fortress Europa 2 AAR? You know, where after Italy fell Germany suddenly gained this bonanza of oil from nowhere? Kind of a major issue, really.

Re: GS 2.1 win/loss records--help up collect the data!

We need a lot more data if we want to come up with a meaningful picture. Maybe some players are reluctant to post publicly their win/loss records? If somebody would send me the list of our beta team, I would volunteer to send PM's to everybody, asking them to submit their results for RC-11 games and...

Re: Joe v. Morris Round II (Joe's AAR)

I agree with everything that Borger said. Those casualties may have been high, but on the strategic scale it's a huge victory. The final strike was textbook perfection--a double-envelopment. Wow! First sneaking those korps to breach the river lines, then going straight for a decapitation and encircl...

Re: Joe v. Morris Round II (Joe's AAR)

Joe,

I'm wondering if the higher casualties you're taking are not largely due to the fact that Morris' attack on Belgium negated the usual -20% Effectiveness penalty? It seems to me that it might explain a lot of those unusually high losses you've been taking. What do you think?

Re: AAR: Diplomaticus vs Morris--Morris welcome!

You could have won in your game with Diplomaticus and you did 1942 Barbarossa.... Fortress Europa strategy works very well against many players. Don't be surprised that people are playing conservatively with you - they don't want to make any blunders, because that can be fatal. Speaking purely for ...

Re: Proper Game etiquette -- or -- when is it ok to resign?

Allies can suffer defeat after defeat and somehow always be able to come back to put the axis into the dirt. Axis a single turning point means your demise is pretty inevitable. My two scents, it never really makes sense to give up as allies because you can always take the axis player unaware somewh...

Re: GS 2.1 win/loss records--help up collect the data!

Pion Urpo played the Axis and kicked my ass 2-3 times. That was before the latest Soviet tech change, though. I would rate him as 1 level above me, i.e. if I'm a Veteran, then he is Veteran+ or Elite. I agree that Pion is very good at playing Axis. I think he could give lessons on what Borger's bee...

Joe, was it wise to place your fighter in the rough/woods hex next to Liege? That's only 3 supply.
