Re: Turning to expose rear in front of enemy

 This thread is really funny. It shows in the last post space in the main forum as "Turning to expose rear in . . ." as if people were meant to fill in the blank bit - the paddling pool? the back garden? a car window? Wargamers eh? What a bunch of weirdos! Well, turning to expo...

Re: Passive vs Active Defence

Returning to this topic, it occurs to me that there are some armies that are almost expected to have to assault difficult terrain. Take the Galatians for example. In most of my games so far, I have been forced into attacking some kind of difficult position; in one game, it is a forest, another was a...

Re: Turning to expose rear in front of enemy

I've had a few situations turn out like that and it is infuriating. What happens is there is something behind the enemy's main line (in this case slingers) which stops the enemy skirmishers from falling back through the line. They run parallel to it instead, and if your troops pursue up to the enemy'...

Re: Passive vs Active Defence

Come to think of it, the other battles are rather underutilised. Attack and Defend set ups could use more gameplay. (Does FOG II even have Attack/Defend? I'm not sure if that's just Pike and Shot/Sengoku.)

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

Just a quick stat from Classical Antiquity. So far this season there have been 234 results posted and only 3 of them have been 0-0 draws, which represents less than 1.5% of the total. I agree that 0-0 draws are hardly an issue as it is scored now as if both players have lost the match. Hmm... curio...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

This sort of approaches the idea Richard was talking about from the side... but I did have the idea for a team based tournament that mixed players from different divisions together. You could have four six-person teams in a group, and each team could have an even distribution of Division A, B, C, D,...

Re: Themed Event: winners post your results here . . .

Themed Event semi-final Ludendorf (Byzantines 600-649 AD) defeats harveylh (Avar 558-631 AD) 61-39%. Enough to satisfy honour, but not enough to keep me in the tournament. Harvey dragged me over every rocky crag and through every deep foreboding forest and bog, my army dogged every step of the way b...

Passive vs Active Defence

There's been quite a lot of discussion about 'camping' in this game; that is, sitting pretty on the best piece of defensive terrain on the map (usually near the map's edge) and refusing to give battle, in the hope that your opponent will be forced to attack you over the obstacles in order to engage ...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

You could maybe make it a positive thing instead. If you push up the map and are fighting close to the enemy camp, then your troops get a cohesion bonus. It would make those risky assaults on bad terrain much more bearable.

Faction Spotlight!

Greetings everyone. I have started up a new series called Faction Spotlight. The object of this series of videos is to take a close look at factions which are particularly interesting, popular or perhaps underrated, and then see how they play against different army types. The idea is to really work ...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

If you need any further encouragement, I just lost a critical match badly, and it was mainly due to my decision to launch a do-or-die attack with an inferior army against a veteran opponent who was more than ready for me. Sometimes, bunkering down is EXACTLY what you need to do. There are some army ...

Re: Field of Glory Digital League Season 8 Battles.

Thanks for these AARs. I am really enjoying them and learning some of the finer points of game play. I was wondering if it is possible to break some of the longer games into 2 or more videos? Myself, I have satellite internet with limited data downloads. So I try to do my downloads using either Win...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

I usually use a mixed cavalry/infantry formation with light cavalry support to hunt down horse armies. Infantry armies with at least some cavalry support usually get the better of the horse, and you can catch the horse as long as your cavalry are supported by infantry not far behind. (Unless you're ...
