If you mean the LF are in combat as an overlap only, p64 says the skirmishers in overlap can evade, and unless in certain terrain must pass a CMT to avoid evading against non-skirmishers. Does that answer the question?

LH 2nd rank can shoot, 3rd can't - it measures from the front edge of the base to its front.

1. Overlap combat is still close combat and your opponents routed. You can pursue if you meet the conditions under Initial Pursuit, first and second bullets on p101. You will need to wheel to engage (p108, bullet 3). 2. <Edit> 3. First, the diagram on p72 and the normal turning rules indicate the ov...

Nice work with the photos - it makes crystal clear all the different forces bearing down on your position and the tactical interplay. I'm sure the Spanish gloated over having exclusive pickings of the Pontic camp ahead of their rapacious light horse comrades. Clive made pretty much a frontal attack ...

Olivier's is nicely done, but I found one bug. Heavy Weapon is both Impact and Melee, but it only counts points for it if put in the impact POA box, not the Melee POA box. I understand from an earlier RBS post that HW is exclusive as both an Impact and Melee POA, so if put in either box it should pr...

I'm not the only one who finds all army lists and the facts behind them to be very interesting, and I'm sure your contribution would be quite welcome since this is the forum provided as a resource for army design. The Authors appear ubiquitous on these forums so you can expect they'll read it as wel...

I downloaded both files. Thank you Seldon, very neat way of making maps!

Your photos + commentary + maps in combination make the action very easy to follow.

Lower-case elite as representing social stratum or opinion of themselves, and presumably better martial effectiveness (since they are graded Superior) vs "Elite" as a quality grade.

Re: Capability Incompatibilities?

Thanks, Richard. It's very helpful to understand the design. Impact Foot can only have Swordsmen melee capability. (or nothing, theoretically, but we don't have any of those yet). What about Non-Swordsmen Impact Foot as representing troops with a fierce initial onset but much weaker in sustained mel...

Capability Incompatibilities?

While waiting for Amazon to restock companions, I have an army list design related question. My question is what capabilities are mutually exclusive either because they are inherently incompatible or they would not be allowed for design reasons? The stated design philosophy is that weapons which may...

Nik, particularly where official lists for them are well beyond the horizon, is there any reason why well researched, copiously cited, and conservatively designed army lists that have been subjected to "peer review" (e.g., forum review and hopefully unoffiicial comments from the design tea...

I agree, only when you turn 90, you will end up two bases wide and two deep as you must end up as wide or wider (by the min necessary) as your formation was deep before the turn. Your knights will then charge in your next impact phase. Martin If you check p44 you will see that depth is measured in ...

I think you are right. I don't see any contradiction since you apply the 2 points in whatever order they arise. The routers can't continue routing by interpenetrating or shifting, so they continue their rout path without deviation, bursting through friends and halting before enemies as they go (it c...

Re: Keeping track which BGs can be bolstered

To keep the cues different in kind and minimize errors, I think I'll try marker color for cohesion level and number of markers for recency. This should make it easy to eyeball the field at the start of each Impact Phase for duplicate markers.

I think your commanders are needlessly falling on their swords. p109 mentions a single 10-12 commander roll by pursuers in contact at the end of any pursuit move. (Easy to forget - I've added a note on this case to the normal commander roll paragraph on p99) p50 is in the Manoeuvre Phase section but...

Re: Keeping track which BGs can be bolstered

I was thinking of markers that can be flipped over but I suspect your 2 / 1 method is a simpler visual cue and thus more reliable.
