Re: LORDS OF ITALY c 280 BC

Pyrrhus (Tdefender) 47/50 vs Carthaginians (Enakan) 56/56

A very close battle decided by a desperate hoplite voluntary charge at the very end. A draw would be the rightful output.

TDefender 10.0
Enakan 9.4

Re: Generals

I don't want to seem disrespectful but I don't understand why "the ai can't handle this" is a justification for simplifiying the game. I don't want to seem disrespectful too but imho all those "choices" came from the limit of the engine rather than deliberate developing ideas. J...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

Alexander used reserves in several battles to good effect for example. Could you give an example of Alexander deliberately using a reserve? Certainly he would deploy free troops to trouble areas when he could, but that's not the same thing as a reserve. Much like the strategic reserves in the ancie...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

Totally agree. I've read the post of Cheimison in the main forum about" The Cambridge History of Greek and Roman Warfare " book and I've found it very interesting but there are other several historical resources that certify the use of reserve in ancient warfare. Of course, the concept of ...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

Yes, tactical reserves are very much modern military doctrine. Strategic reserves are also a modern thing. There is no evidence that any ancient army ever intentionally kept troops in reserve behind a theater of operations. Most history and science fiction tactical/strategic games are basically WW2...

Re: WHO’S LEFT?

It should not be named FoG 2: it's clearly an ancient warfare evolution of P&S saga. Several FoG's gameplay mechanics have been cut off, officially for "design decisions" but it's clear that it's all about the different engine. It's not a bad game: interface and graphics are amazing, m...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

IMO one of the main historical feature that is not reproduced in this game (and in many if not all games) is that there is no sense (or there is only a little sense) to use more than one line of cohorts. IMO there should be some way to withdraw from melee by infantry units without being routed and ...

Re: Generals

There are several "omissis" in FoG 2 which in my humble opinion seem to come from engine's limits rather than "deliberate design decision". With the exception of the army movement (which is a nice feature but nothing amazing) anything that is not the previous titles (P&S and ...

Re: Generals

The gameplay is someway streamlined to have a better experience vs the ai compared to FoG 1 and I have to say that the goal is perfectly achieved. On the other hand, playing vs human it's not so exciting as it is with FoG 1, at least for me , considering there are too much "mechanics" miss...

Re: Slingers vs Javelinmen

And that's why I think that, at the moment, FoG 2 it's a great, a huge step forward as to single player and graphics but some step back as to multiplayer and tactical gameplay. Just my opinion, of course.

Re: Changes needed to some nations/mechanics

The issue is not just about the Parthians scenario, it's almost impossible to weaken enemies with every kind of light unit, in my humble opinion this is really an issue which needs some revision.
