Re: Higher Ground POA

That is interesting. Why do you think that is that phalanxes (and pikes?) double drop repeatedly and often? Do they stand out in this regard? I don't know why, but that is my experience over hundreds of games--I see fresh phalanxes double-drop very, very often. In the game I'm playing now out of fi...

Re: Higher Ground POA

I've seen veteran muslim spearmen double drop from disrupted to routing after taking a flank charge from lancers on more than one occasion, so it's definitely possible. Yeah, but that includes an auto-drop from the flank attack, so not sure if it "counts" as a double-drop. But how is it t...

Re: Higher Ground POA

You tell that to my hoplites who thought it was a magnificently dominant position. Yes it was apparently 0.16% and it happened twice in succession. hmmm, my worst result was four double-drops in a row, and 6 of 7 in the same turn, with contiguous units. While these combats were straight up warband ...

Re: Newbie

Hover over a unit and I think the small general icon will be there. Just click on it to add a general to your unit. You can add 4 generals to units in the deployment phase. You can only reassign leaders to units in the same group, so before moving a leader you might need to add the unit to the lead...

Re: No stalemates allowed?

Historical battle have no turn limits, so you have to play them out. I once played a historical battle that went for 70 turns before I could convince the other player to call a draw (actually, I just told him that I was not going to play any more). I think this needs to be fixed...there should be *s...

Light foot flank attack?

Haven't played much lately, wanted to double-check something...is a light foot unit that is not already engaged supposed to drop a level if it is hit in the flank? similarly, if a light foot unit is attacked from a diagonal square, and is then attacked again in the same turn from one of the adjacent...

So I took a look...apparently it implements simplified rules and does not allow, for instance, creating your own scenarios. That's a deal-breaker for me. Oh well...

Re: Naval integration

I've always been amazed that there has never been (AFAIK) a computer adaptation of the old AH board game Wooden Ships and Iron Men. I don't even like naval stuff but played a lot of that game back in my youth.

Re: Naval integration

Mare Nostrvm is a valiant attempt at galley warfare and has a lot of good ideas, but some questionable design decisions. The biggest flaw is the inclusion of ships occupying half hexes. These are nearly impossible to ram or board. Yup, this was also my main issue with it...I think I played two scen...

Cannot scroll right with mouse

I've just reinstalled the game on a new computer and have an annoying problem: While I can scroll the map to the left by moving the mouse to the left map edge, when I try to scroll right by moving the mouse to the right mouse edge, there is no scrolling and in fact the mouse cursor freezes for a mom...

Patches cumulative?

I've got a new computer and have to re-install FOG2...I've been putting it off because of the many patches and DLCs. Are any of the patches cumulative, or do I need to install all of them individually? There must be 15 of them, so that will be quite a chore...

Re: Elephants and pursuing

I've had elephants (rarely) run right down through a line of 3-4 units after hitting one in the flank, although I think every time they just kept going straight ahead after routing the last guy. Don't recall an elephant diverting from pursuing one unit to hitting another in the flank, but perhaps I'...

Re: 32 Turns for Tournament Games

I find the strong negative reaction interesting, I guess the dynamic is different in tournament games than in standard MP games, where people generally pick up a game because they want to fight rather than run around the battlefield. Plus XL battlefields are bigger, so naturally take more time to na...

Re: 32 Turns for Tournament Games

I have always set my XL MP game to 36 turns. Works pretty well, I think. Rarely goes that long, but in the meantime you have time for more maneuvering, and camping is rarely effective. Not sure about the medium-sized tournament games, but 32 sounds about right.
