I went with Feudal castings for my Scotts common they are Fantastic do not come with there spears you have to bye them separately. I recommend Xyston long spears they come in packs of fifty for about £3 and unlike most manufactures spears they don't bend. I also got my Scottish flags from SOA (I th...

Thanks. Plenty to look at there.

The "Quick Reaction force" website shows some excellent Scottish spearmen, and Essex some very good Islesmen/Gallowglasses.

Lancs. games may have some promising knights. I will have to do a bit more searching but the foot look to be sorted out.

Advice needed - 15mm Figures

I've been out of table top wargaming for many years. RL got in the way and then came PC gaming. :? However I'm getting the urge to wargame again, especially as my eldest son is of an age where he can appreciate that sort of thing. He has got into Warhammer with a local club and it pains me to see lo...

This picture might be of interest. Pictish Stone at Aberlemno Church Yard This is believed to represent the battle of Nechtansmere in 685AD. This took place between the invading King Ecgfrith of Northumbria and the Picts under King Bridei. This resulted in a defeat for the Northumbrian English. The ...

Yippee! Things just sound better and better. :D (The all-infantry view of the "Anglo-Saxons", that has been so strong in organised wargaming over the years, has been somewhat frustrating for the likes of me. I can see me spending a lot of time painting an English army that comes close to h...

There has been considerable debate on this matter. Wargames tend to treat the early English as just infantry fighters but there is evidence of pre-conquest Englishmen fighting as cavalry. (Not just the Earl Ralph episode where he, a Norman, insisted on making the local soldiers fight on horseback wh...

I hope there is an option for at least some of the Select Fyrd and/or Housecarls to fight as efficient cavalry.

Well the new Rise of Rome list has pyrrhus. The rule book has a starter army for them in it. The question for you is what defines a "small army" in qty? Well I suppose up to about 8,000-10,000 men. Warfare in the Classical or Hellenistic period involved much larger armies in set piece bat...

If I take this up properly again I intend to paint a Pyrrhic Army in 6mm using Baccus miniatures. Take a look at their site and gaze at the Macedonian phalangites.

The more figures I see the more able I am to picture an actual army.

Period for Small Armies

After years of no wargaming (other than on the PC) I fancy dipping my toe in the water again. FoG rules look promising and I wouldn't mind a bash. What is more I would like to wean my eldest son off Warhammer-style combat and perhaps FoG might fit the bill. My period is from the Wars of the Successo...
