How do you defeat France before Italy joins the war? If I'm lucky and aggressive, I manage to take Paris by Christmas or so, but even then, France will not surrender before Italy joins the war.
Or do you have to refrain from using poison gas as Germany? I never do that.

Taking Paris and Warsaw and forcing Serbia to surrender fast enough might just be what it takes to deter Italy from joining the Entente (convoys en route not included in the calculation).

Use of poison gas is important in so far as the moment you use it when playing CP, Italy might be pushed just far enough to join the Entente, thus adding it's PP and tipping the balance too far in favor of the Allies, preventing Bulgaria from joining.

googled this: http://www.history.com/this-day-in-hist ... orld-war-i

It seems to me in the below paragraph, that Bulgaria was joining CP to maintain it's economy with it's CP major trading partners. Otherwise, it would go broke from Entente aggression. Meaning: the more Bulgaria lost from trade the more it infuriated them, to cause them to want to support CP with it's military to keep the economic ties open, that's why I question the production formula in this game, where it applies to diplomacy. Besides that, there are other circumstances from past grievances they could settle by going to war.
Secretly courted by both sides in World War I as a potential ally in the tumultuous Balkan region, Bulgaria eventually decided in favor of the Central Powers. In his statement of October 11, 1916, Radoslavov argued that confronting the Allied powers—Britain, France and Russia—alongside Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire was desirable not only for economic reasons, as the latter two countries were Bulgaria’s chief partners in trade, but also as a way for the country to defend itself against the aggression of Serbia, the Russian ally and major power in the Balkans that Radoslavov considered to be his country’s “greatest foe.”

I'm not convinced. In the long run all these aspects boil down to one thing: namely WHO owns WHAT on the map, just what the game is calculating right now. It doesn't have to be unnecessarily complicated in my opinion, at least not in a beer & pretzels game like CTGW.

But I'll propose a formula nonetheless....how about this to calculate a factions "strength":

((current manpower) + (total unit strength on the map) + (total city production points x 10)) x (the faction's morale / 100) ?

then you should be hyperaggressive :D

ai is weak, some players too, u can take paris in sep/oct

second phase, taking bordeaux is much harder and it works just vs ai (so far in multiplayer almost everyone left the game after paris fall, only one player setup defense with huge british help and its tough to advance), u need like 3 infantries + air support and go straight down bordeaux with them, cut off nantes + brest on the way, rest of the army im used to use for a "scythe maneuver", encircling rest of french army nearby dijon, antwerp is overpowered, so just ignore it, it will surrender just after france

i made a little tour until ultimate victory in august 1915 (it could be faster, but i forget to supply my first landed infantry in britain :D), it was vs privileged ai

http://postimg.org/image/4rkhewnkj/ britain down in aug 1915 (without my dumb mistake, it could be in jul/jun)

ps: i just discovered new weird strategy, so russia down in feb 1915 and ultimate victory 1st apr 1915

last edit: one more improve, russia and britain down at feb 4th, thats all folks, i guess it cant be done much faster 8)

I was about to post and ask "why Bulgaria has not entered the war by 1916?" when I came across this thread.
It seems to me that: after Belgrade has fallen, Warsaw has been captured, Venice has been captured and Paris is being threatened, that Bulgaria would surely join.
How do I mod this game so that Bulgaria definitely joins in October 1915?

just dont use gas first, gas has huge diplomatic consequences, dont upgrade arties with gas technology until bulgaria is in the war

but i guess its too late for that in your current game

With both of my regular opponents we've agreed a house rule that if Bulgaria hasn't mobilised, or at least isn't definitely counting down to mobilising, by the historic date it entered, the Entente DoWs it. Having Rumania certain to enter the war (I've never seen it not in a good twenty-five games) but not Bulgaria unbalances an otherwise even scenario.

And no need to fiddle around with codes and separate folders.

You are absolutely right. Preserving historic events is the best way to keep CTGW interesting. I am actually playing a 1915 MP game and encounter the same problem, with few hope to see it improving. I will ask my opponent to declare war to Bulgaria in october 1915, this is a very good idea.

Depending on who you are playing with, it can be usefull to make some adjustments. With "Luckyshot", we used to forbid creation of more aircrafts than what was available at the beginning of the scenario. We had a great fun.
With "Nehi", we once agreed not to suppress garrisons and not to bombard cities with zeps. It was interesting, but we should have limited the number of aircrafts, as they were much more in the end than ground units ! Always a question of balance.
