Hi everyone

Time to put the pressure on Kevin re armies and ramp up the excitement, I know army wise there are at least a pair of Tarts, even though I tried to be unique, what other armies are their out their

maybe time to play the guessing game (please note these are all guesses, though I am fairly confident I guessed what I was bringing right)

Don Avis Mughuls
Jim Gibson a difficult one as he occasionally goes for something left side how about I have no idea
Dave Allen Scots
Alasdair Harley Tatars (Singles so no paddy so don't have to have any artillery) all horses
Kevin Johnson I know so would be unfair to say
Ben I know so would be unfair to say
Richard Bodley scott I know so would be unfair to say
Simon a hard one to call, me thinks possibly lots of gendarmes it charges and is mad so a Simon sort of army
Charles Ottomans or Mughuls
Andy Kitcher the dark horse, absolutely no idea
Richard Young something from africa, america or the far east
Paddy Bray Very Late Russian (1812)
Dave Parrish Ming Chinese
Martin Van Tol have no idea
Tim Porter Ming Chinese or Aztec
Adrian Steer another dark horse so not sure

apologies to all the new players I haven't included

Justs my thoughts

Alasdair

Hi,

We are still accepting entries and would love to hear from anyone who can float between periods.

Overall numbers for Roll Call are looking up from last year. We've hired additional space and so there are still a few spaces available. There is still time to enter so please contact us asap.

A little surprisingly we are especially short on FoG 25mm players. Anyone who can make it please let us know asap. If we don't have enough entries by Sunday evening, we may well have to cancel the period. Or if you want to change from one of the other periods into 25mm then that would help too.

It would be very helpful if there is anyone willing to float between FoG:R and one of the other FoG 15mm or 25mm periods. If you would be able to help (and thus prevent byes) that would be fantastic. Please let us know.

All the information can be found on the new BHGS web-site.

Bruce.

OK - so it seems I've volunteered to be the "whipping boy" for the weekend.

I've obviously been too taken with the Royal Jubilee (after all Henry is our greatest monarch) and the Olympic spirit (it's not the winning that matters, it's the taking part!!!) to select a decent army. It is pretty though!

I predict a 19th place finish!!! As Kevin kindly pointed out to me, the Henricians haven't got out of the bottom 2 in any competition they've been in!

At the top of the table the fight will be between The Tatar civil war and the Yemeni's. Can the foot army's close them down especially with only a 3" range on the arquebus? Or will all the horse ride around at will and run away if they lose a base or go fragmented. Watch out for the stout English longbow with a 6" range and 4" close range!

I'd like to see the Japanese do well.

Here's to a great weekend

Don

I'm not as sure as Don how good the Yemenis might be. Maybe I'll have a better idea once I've had a game with them. That will be around lunchtime next Saturday...

Here's to a great weekend

Well the one and only practice for tarts vs Tarts this morning wasn't really encouraging for either player (both versions are quite different) resulted in Ben losing all his tartar generals (by half way through the game) though his troops then fought better and me losing half of my tartar generals, so lots of new commanders being recruited for next weekend.

My predictions for the weekend, Henrican isn't qute as bad as you think Don (I'm also not sure you should be wishing the Japanese well as they could be your first opponent) and that Early Polish of Jim' is a nasty bugger (played it twice as its what Paddy was going to bring before he went over to the dark side, did bot enjoy the experience) I like Yemen list and both the Later Imperial Austrian and Hungarian are nasty, I'm afraid I am not in a position to comment on all the other armies as they have foot in them, though I think Early Tercios look great

Dave Allen thats a nasty list only realised when I looked at the date and no I do not want to know how many battle groups I doubt I can count that high

looking forward to it

cheers

Actually not that many, definitely fewer than your Tatars, but so much bigger!
looking forward to it.

We're trying to ensure that periods have an even number of players where possible, so if anyone is willing to float between Fog AM and Fog R could you please drop me a PM.

I have offered to float if required but it seems that FoGM has an even number so it wouldn't be fair to imbalance them.

Should someone drop out of FoGM I'm quite happy to come to FoGR but I'll need an army. As I don't possess T&T this will present a challenge but I have emailed Alasdair to borrow an army from C & C just in case there's a last minute change.

Alasdair? Please check your emails.

Cheers

My forecast was to watch out for the two Tatars and the Yemeni. Didn't realise that "nice" Mr Dalby was gonna turn up with Mongols!!! That's 3 horsey armies at the top (shame about the Yemeni's!)

Let me be the first to post the 1, 2, 3 for the weekend -

1) Alasdair Harley - Tatars (did we expect anything else!)
2) Dave Parrish - Irish (yah - the famous Irish submariner!) - a real foot army!
3) Richard Bodley Scott - Hungarian -I beat him 13-7 in the first round but it's where u end that matters!

Congratulations to all 3 for a great result against a tough field.

So how did 'enery VIII do? Well despite my pessimistic 20th place forecast, we ended up 11th out of 20! The cavalry armies were scared witless of the bill and bow and in my last game against a Milanese Italian, I chased them all over the board! My nemesis - Swiss. So guess what I faced in R3 ? Yep Swiss!!!

Graham Briggs Swiss scared the pants off me! A brilliant game where I tried to minimise my losses against superior kiels and emerged with only a 7-13 defeat - result!

'enery was a tough nut to crack for my opponents but also a tough army to get a decent win with. A mid table army if ever there was one (unless run by Alasdair!). At least I did better than all other Henry VIII armies

Great to see Ray Boyles (an old Gush opponent) learning how to play!

Thanks to the BHGS team for organising and also to Kevin Johnson for list checking and umpiring. Many thanks to my 4 opponents for 4 very close games fought in great spirit - Richard BS, Ben J ( I got a draw 10-10 yes!), Graham Briggs (god I hate those Swiss ) and lastly to Richard Young for a cliff hanging final game.

Roll on the next comp!

Don
