Re: Oxford 1 Day Event - 11 October 2020
I am currently available those dates but not sure I can 100% commit to them, so I wonder how that effects the "rounds" if I make, say 2 of the 3? But then if I cannot make the last date, it is unlikely to matter as I rarely make the top half of the table anyway!
Also, I was reading/replying to Trev's post on the Sutton-in-Ashfield thread and he mentions that "under pubs and clubs regulations each table is a separate group" so for that recent comp we had 4 groups of 2 that we appropriately socially distanced.
So I would ask to check again what the Wolvercote Hall guidance is on max numbers under the new rules, as as surely it would be better to run the full compo on the 11 Oct as planned and maybe run 1 or 2 more on the other Sundays as well (to make up for lost opportunities from other cancelled events this year) assuming it was fair and equitable with the interests of the other OWS members.

Re: Oxford 1 Day Event - 11 October 2020
I have just checked the Govt. regs under the new “rule of 6”. I found the following in relation to use of community facilities ( as opposed for instance to a hospitality facility such as a pub)
“3c: Recreation, leisure and social gatherings
Managers and providers in community facilities are not permitted to organise or hold informal or formal social groups, clubs and activities unless limited to groups of six people following social distancing rules.
However, for activities and social groups where there is a significant likelihood of groups mixing and socialising ( and where it will be difficult to prevent mingling and therefore breaking the law) should not take place in a community facility. These may include but are not limited to:

amateur choirs and orchestras
informally organised sport activities on facilities grounds (professionally organised sport activities are exempt)”

Re: Oxford 1 Day Event - 11 October 2020
I have now got some guidance from the Hall which they got from the body that looks after community facilities nationally. Essentially the advice is as we thought; clubs such as ours should be limited to 6 at an event.
Accordingly it seems that our best option is to spread the whole ECW event over three Sundays as I outlined. We will give some thought to the details and post something soon - but it looks as if all the places for round 1 are gone now.

Re: Oxford 1 Day Event - 11 October 2020
Having thought it through a bit more we want to add one further rule that there will be one spot at each event reserved for an OWS member to be responsible for the use of the Hall and running the event generally. So, if an OWS member does not naturally make it through to the 3rd round then the sixth highest scorer will, unfortunately, have to be replaced by the highest scoring OWS player.
Not ideal but there seems to be no alternative so we hope everyone will be OK with it.
Anyone who has not entered round 1 and would like a place in round 2 should please now go to our website and buy a ticket. At some point before the event, if we are short of 6 then we shall be able to take entrants who already played in round 1 - always remembering that we need at least one OWS member included.
Any comments or views?

So is the idea if we are playing in the October one we don’t enter the November one?

If we fill the October one with 6 new players no, but if not cannot see why not. Although upto Tom.

Re: Oxford 1 Day Event - 11 October 2020
Yes, the idea is that if we get 6 new players applying for November then they will get first refusal to play. Those of us in the October session have to try to get one of the three top spots in that so as to be eligible for the play off in December.
If there are not 6 new players wanting to enter in November then I shall open it up to those the played in October - first come after notification of this here will be first served.

October 11 - entrants to round 1 of ECW 2020
Ray Boyles
Paddy Bray
David Burrows
Tom Elsworth
Dene Green
Keith Spedding
Dear players - thank you for your entries.
Grateful to get army lists as soon as maybe so that I can sort out the draw - starting so far as possible with historical pairings while keeping OWS club members apart. We shall run it as a round robin so that once apart the OWS members will stay apart!

Alas, I have to drop out of round 1 on 11 Oct, as I am now going into Self Isolation due to being in contact with someone who just tested positive. I hope, with Tom's help, to be able to swap my slot for one in round 2 on 15 Nov. If anyone wants to do that, can they let me and Tom know ASAP? thanks David(B)
