Russia in The Great War

Post by MBogdasarian » Mon Aug 10, 2020 9:16 pm

has anyone noticed if Russia always leaves the war at some point, regardless of morale? If that is the case, which it appears to be to me, does that understanding fundamentally change how you play the Entente Powers or the Central Powers?

Since I don't know if that question is about the basic game or my "PotzBlitz" mod I'll answer both versions:

Basic game (V1.6.6):
Russia will surrender if either:
- Russian morale has dropped below 0 before 1917
- Russia will automatically leave the war due to the October Revolution Special event anytime starting in 1917 if Russian morale is below 40 (the February Revolution is omitted because of a scripting bug)

PotzBlitz mod:
Russia will surrender if either:
- Russian morale has dropped below 0
- both Petrograd and Moscow were captured by Central Powers
- a random amount of turns after October Revolution has happened
- Treaty of Brest-Litovsk event was played by Central Powers

In both versions of the game you play Russia to cause damage and/or tie down Central Powers as much as possible to prevent CP re-directing all forces to the west.
Russia is a "giant made of glass" and should not be expected to last until the end of war if facing an experienced player.
In singleplayer against CP AI Russia might last longer or even until the end of the game. This mostly depends on the ratio of kills inflicted and casualties suffered by Russia.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I suspected as much regarding the variable quit by Russia, but hoped there was a way to keep them in.

There is a way to keep them in: don't lose any cities and cause more kills than suffered casualties.

But novice players will struggle to achieve this (no offense meant).

Hello Robotron....

I'm trying to remember if by sinking an enemy battleship if it increases your faction's NM? Certainly the OP does not want to lose a Russian battleship, IIRC would be a -20 NM loss to Russia.. By the way: I'm glad your still at it... All the best....:)
