Thanks, and at the risk of sounding hubris gonna have to agree :P

Lots of hours spent but much of it was while on the bike doing cardio anyway. I used to play online poker but Panzer Corps is much more fun and less expensive

Historical Hero Recap ('39)

Post by huckc »

I really enjoyed the historical heroes and got good use out of them. Let's take a look at each one, starting from `39...

Image
The speed-walking legend himself. Filled up with some minor heroes, most importantly probably the D+1. Can't complain as his own stats are plenty good enough. Most kills out of any ground unit in this list.
30.4 K/L

Image
Great stats that helped bridge the gap against heavy soviet armor early war. Later on, lacking any movement fill-ups meant he was primarily a main-liner in his Tiger 2. Most kills out of any tank in this list.
39.8 K/L

Image
Great early way but shelved mid due to a weak ground and air attack. Once the FW-190G was available it gave him enough air attack to prevent fighters from attacking him, allowing bombing runs with no escort thus making him sometimes worth a deployment slot.
46.0 K/L

Laptop on an over-bed table that they use in hospitals to serve food, extra tall.

Only hero in '40 and the best fighter, no minuses, until '44. Second-highest scoring ace at over 2000 kills. Picked up a movement hero which I really like for air units in general, so often just one hex short it seems.

Historical Hero Recap ('41)

Post by huckc »

Image
The supreme leader of the low skies. Insanely good stats helped by a further movement hero pick up, defense would have also been good. I found that his attack bonus was so high that the ground attack stats of the plane he was in didn't matter much with fuel, air attack, and initiative being the most important. In his FW-190G he would double as most capable fighter until the Me-262 and only a possible target to the 18-strength 4-star fighters in Berlin Redux. Most kills out of any unit in my core.
89.3 K/L

Image
With no defense and a movement pick up very late, he was mostly shelved middle war until very late, serving well in both Berlin scenarios.
40.4 K/L

Image
Arguably my most versatile tank and the only one in this list coming standard with a movement bonus. Due to that he was often the vanguard of long-range commando type missions.

Picked up another movement hero to put him on part with Oleh Dir. Used extensively but foolishly gave him transport that was eventually removed. Waste of money with 6 movement by foot.

Strongest main line infantry due to such beefy stats, tip of the spearhead for many pushes. Second hero was initiative +1. Incredibly high K/L ratio for infantry.

+6 def, excellent. A turn of city entrenchment at 5-star gives him a defense rating of 26 against artillery. Very useful in Berlin.

What did you do with Sarkozy commandos in the first Bulge? I used one to harass an artillery piece while staying in the woods. The others just were up for much. We're just kinda good faster infantry

Mainly to bolster my flank, maybe drawing out enemies or ambushing. They can do some serious damage to tanks when snowing.

Never understood what the marked B hexes were for.

Same question. Wonder if they had planned on using them? For instance if the commando units enter the B hexes, then allied units going through those hexes set off in a random direction when ordered to move. Much like the real event, the commandos made trouble behind the lines.

I read through the whole of this. Very impressive. I struggle on standard settings already. This would drive me insane.
But one thing that I did not understand is that how u can drop paras behind enemy lines.
In my experience this is incredibly dangerous.
First the flight to the destination is hazardous. If u by accident stop in the viewrange of groundtroops (whose placement can be really random) u can get intercepted or flakked or both.
And second... how do u know if your target area is not fortified or a staging area for a scripted reinforce?

I agree it's dangerous business using para drops and often very sub-optimal but one of my major goals for this run was to use them as much as possible for some extra fun/challenge. Can do some nifty things with them like multi-drops where they capture an airfield then re-fly somewhere else.

This wasn't blind as I've played it all before on Field Marshall. I also sometimes do a trial run or scout initial enemy positions to make sure it will work, factoring in potential mis-drops or one of them getting hit bad by a fighter/AA or rugged defense which has happened in a couple scenarios.

Hey Buddy...

I posted the first of my episodes of the awesome playthrough of Storming Stalingrad. When I recorded I thought I was researching a previous playthrough on Manstein difficulty, but I realized before I posted that all thanks and honor go to you for the idea to pull off the playstyle with the 3 Fallschimjaeger's

I am using the ideas laid out here, and trying to give you full credit for the idea on my channel.

Let me know if there is any other way I can give you more credit and possible drawing more attention to your awesome work.

I needed to tweak your Stalingrad Docks layout as I needed to approach it somewhat differently.

But I am pulling something similar for Escape and Tatsinskaya when I get there. I am still playtesting so I can maximize those first 3 starting turns.

Thanks again for your great spearheading with really dynamic ideas to playtest. ;)

Hey goose,

No special requests for credit, a simple shoutout is much appreciated! I've come a long way in skill since then too, at least I like to think that

Tatsinskaya...oh boy hopefully an MV is reasonable since a DV nearly impossible with -5 turns and +5 enemy str. I think you'd have to use some partial exploits like shepherding the throng of enemy units somewhere convenient.

Btw, have you played Order of Battle? I played the US Pacific campaign and greatly enjoyed it, posted the AAR here but it's still missing most scenarios.

Oh Buddy. I am going for the Decisive on Tatsinskaya. I am pretty sure how to do it, and again your ingenuity is to thank for it.

I have some of the Order of Battle campaigns and tried playing it years ago when I first got it, but it is not Panzer Corps so....;)
