Heading into the Storming Stalingrad with 54074 prestige points. I got all 10 of my artillery and 8 out of 11 infantry to **** (one Pioniere unit is at 392 experience points while the other two are the Helmut Wirnsberger and Friedrich Pein hero units).

I am trying to decide whether to go All In like I did last time, or do just enough overstrengthening to squeak out a DV while staying under the cap.

OK.

Just finished Storming Stalingrad.

I overstrenghtened all my infantry and two Stukas to the max. Everything else was limited to 12 strength points apart from a couple of artillery units that were already at 13. I elected to go with only five air units: three fighters and two Stukas. I was just fractionally over the cap at the start but was but receiving 100% prestige after about 4 turns.

I managed a DV in 24 turns. I could have done it in 22 but wanted the captured KV-1, as well as the turn bonus and the non-victory flags that were still attainable. The four turns of rain — one with mud — did not help.

Here is the bitter end.

After selling off the captured KV-1, I am at 57079 prestige points, a net gain of 3005.

Same approach at Stalingrad Docks.

Deployed: 9 **** infantry and 2 *** infantry hero units; 10 **** artillery plus one ** Su-122.

Put 2/3 of my forces at the bottom of the map and pushed toward the river bank. Eventually took all the flags West of the river.

I chose the Stalingrad Ruins option and ran the table.

Heading into Kotelnikovo with 64949 prestige points.

Over the course of the three Stalingrad urban scenarios my 11 infantry units averaged 209 kills.

I ended GC 1943 with 63806 points.

Lots of upgrading, downgrading and perhaps some disbanding to do at the start of 1943. But then again I have enough prestige now that I won't particularly need to disband anything until (perhaps) 1945.

I haven't played the GC in a long time... and this weekend I just started again with GC 39 :)

Only on FM level as it has been a while that I played it... therefore, many (if not all) maps will feel like playing them almost blind / for the first time :)

Yeah I hear that. Crazy for me as well...

Super excited as this week we will be moving our eldest back to Iowa. He has started his own business and it is blowing up in growth, so much so that he is bringing it back home...not with us, but around us.

So happy I could burst. Thi parental thing can be oh so rewarding. ;) (Now if we could just get him involved with a good Lutheran woman. ;) )

It is so weird to be getting excited at the prospect of being a grandparent while at the same time dealing with a baby of our own. She is 2 months away from turning 1.

Loving life my friend, loving it

Just finished Stonne 40... feel a bit ston[n]ed now... to all of you who know all the maps by heart... ;)

(and yes, it really helps to read the briefings... sometimes even more than just once... plus patience, playing too aggressively doesn't pay off most of the times... and sneak around the main line of trouble)

I have reached the end of 1940 but I may restart to focus on a much smaller core...

I know I can't optimise the use of ~50 units (i.e. re kills and heros) but I prefer some reserves, maybe I will disband some units later...
