Some seem dead... others might still be able to retreat/withdraw out of sight maybe?

I restarted the scenario. I just lost Lent in a FW190G to 3 Soviet fighters. His escorting ME262 took the first one out but he was down to 10 str after getting hit by AA fire and the other two killed him. That rather sucks so, given the situation in the south, I decided to put that one down to experience. New playthrough appears to be going fairly well but we are only at the start of turn 5. Screenshots are pretty easy so I will include more of them.

I have some light opposition in the north but I will eliminate that pretty quickly. The question is how do I hang on here until I can move forces down.
That's what happened my first time. The Soviets dint care, and once they cross the river in the south, they charge for all the victory hexes. You really have to make it across the river before they do. As the river when frozen allows them to hit Budapest from the west as well. I'm playing colonel so I can't preach here at all

From the restart things went a little better. The screenshot is the strategic map at the start of my turn 10. I am hoping that the Soviets only have one more wave of armour waiting in the East. If I can finish off what you can see before it hits then I can deal with it. If they have more then it will be tough to get a marginal win.

The main difficulty is that most of the infantry I deployed in this scenario are in the centre and it is proving to be slow and difficult to eliminate their infantry.

I really need the weather to stay unfrozen for a few turns so they are limited to river crossings.

Well, that was not pleasant. By the end I had made a breakthrough in the south and captured all the VH's there. I had also eliminated the Soviet units in Budapest. The problem was the north where I did not have enough infantry for the terrain and came up well short. The weather was pretty favourable to me as well. A minor victory and an overall loss of prestige.

Not a scenario I liked. Difficult to know what to defend and what to give up. The best option in the south seems to be to pull back from the river and engage the Soviets in the open terrain around the two VH's. Budapest itself is best defended at the river using grenadiers or pioniere backed up by heavy artillery. The north was a struggle and I could have played better.

Anyway, it's done so on to 45.

Another tough one. Again, I lost prestige overall between starting Goldap and starting the next scenario (about 1400), despite a decisive victory. The reason is taking replacements during the scenario. I find it difficult to avoid although I try to only do so for moderately damaged units ( seriously damaged get parked out of the way and lightly damaged just have to carry on. However, the best Soviet units are very strong now. I will try and focus on minimising casualties in my units and see whether I can turn this around.

Overall the scenario was not too difficult as you have good defensive terrain covering most of the enemy objectives. But the Soviets attack like crazy and will take on attacks I would not consider. I also need to work on destroying damaged enemy units outright, ensuring they cannot recover.

Replay file attached.

I gained a SE Me109K during this scenario, making my 8th and final SE unit. A bit of a mixed blessing as it comes with 1 star and a decent hero which is better than being awarded a totally green unit. However there do not seem to be any better SE fighters to upgrade to and the 109K is not that powerful. I am going to carry on with it and see how it works out.

I have chosen the attacking option so the next scenario is a rescue mission.
