Random tech tree = impossible to plan ahead ?

Random tech tree = impossible to plan ahead ?

Hello there, i'm new to the game. I really enjoy it so far. It has been a long time since i've played a "big game" (i'm used to play indies, often ascii, games, so it's a blast to see fancy graphism and UI and stuff...).

I've lost one game and i'm in a good way to lost the second one, even if i'm in a much better situation overall. So, i'm still discovering everything, and i have one concern. The semi-random tech tree is nice, and at the same time, seems to stop my plans. Let say i want to use only Infantry, or no missile, or going to morale and cities boost with very little army, for roleplay or whatever. It seems impossible to do, because the techs i may need are spread all over the place. I feel like i have to research row by row, instead of going in a line.

Am i missing something here ?

The random tech tree needs a little work.

I just quit a game because of the tech tree.............. I had all kinds of weapons I could research that could only be put on tanks but no tank to research..........

Random is great,....but this is a little too random.

Why don't you just play with more of the tech tree revealed?

Random is great,....but this is a little too random.
I found this tech tree adds much more to the game than it removes.

The randomness can sometime creates a few problems in your development but its generally just a few tech ahead to solve them and it force you to take in account your research with your strategy. I really like this as it adds a little bit of freshness and variation to each game.

I agree, it's a nice touch, and at the same time, i think it may be a little too random right now. Also, i now play with 3 techs revealed, and it's better, even if it does not solve the problem.
