invulnerable building defence

Post by KeefM » Sat Apr 26, 2014 9:24 pm

I'm not sure this is what anyone intended, but it is exactly what the rules say: 1. Move a steady unit of cavalry into bulidings in march column. They can only occupy and not defend. 2. Leave them there.

Those buldings are now more or less totally secured because the only shooting possible at the cavalry unit is by artillery (hitting on 6's unless heavy or howitzers) and infantry cannot assault them cos they are't wavering. The only way to get them out is by assaulting them with another cavalry unit in march column and then both units will fight wih just 2 dice (4 dice less 2 cohesion levels for the terrain).

Anyways, none of that seems 'right' somehow !!

Maybe the rules could be tweaked to allow infantry to assault cavalry that is disordered by terrain ? And/or, that cavalry assaulted while in buildings make an outcome move to the rear ? Anyhows, this situation needs a fix :D !

Keith, you clearly spend too much time thinking up nefarious tactics

But certainly a good pick up that needs resolving.

seems like an expensive way to block a building. personally I tend to avoid them after our last game where the building was invulnerable due to being defended by large Conscript unit, and I could not score more than 2 hits with 3 units shooting

Building FAQ clearly says that Cavalry in a building can be assaulted by Infantry in tactical.

"• Cavalry (which can only be in column) can be assaulted in a building by other cavalry in column or by infantry in tactical formation. (An exception to the rule permitting infantry to assault cavalry). Both sides count as fighting in rough terrain."

Can the cavalry only enter the buildings in march column along a road?
