FOGN VARIANT FOR SYW

Post by loadmaster666 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:57 am

Quick question for all.

Has anyone attempted to cover off on a Seven Years War variant utilising FOGN.

I suggest there is sufficient interest out there and the FOGN rules cover off on most of the rules to cover the period.

Cheers

Dave

We had been playing SYW with FOGN with good success for some time now. I have already posted an After action Repot about the battle of Hastenbeck. This summer we play Rossbach, a very interested game. The Prussians were nearly defeated! We make a minimum changes to the Rules and the game works well. Image

We have tried both FOGN and FOGR for the period. And both work well. FOGR has the advantage that there is no need for any rule change. But For the SYW I prefer FOGN even if some adaptations are necessary. It depends of your opinion about XVIII’s linear tactics, if you think that, as often said, the SYW is the “golden era of linear tactics” or as I do, that by the time of the SYW linear tactics are beginning to be obsolete. I will recommend FOGR up to 1750. But for the SYW, unless the idea is that the Prussian should always win, (and the French always lose!), FOGN allows for more balanced and interesting games.
