What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
Got ToN in the mail Saturday and I have been playing with the Russian Infantry Corps, Army of the West 1812
Competent Corps 30
1st Div mixed Skilled div commander Charismatic 60
4 dragoons avg/drilled officer 52
4 dragoons avg/drilled 52
4 Uhlans avg/drilled/lance 40
4 Jagers avg/drilled 48
6 Musketeers avg/drilled 60
4 Musketeers avg/drilled 40
2 6lbs foot art avg/drilled 40
2nd Div Infantry Skilled div commander
4 Musketeers avg/drilled art/sk 58
4 Grenadiers Sup/drilled officer/art 68
4 Musketeers avg/conscript cav 34
3 12lbs art avg/drilled 72
3rd Div Cavalry Div Competent 30 commander
4 Cuirassiers avg/vet 64
4 Cuirassiers avg/drilled officer 64
This should be 850 points for Historicon.. I have read the rules but I have yet to play a game.. The inf div job is to sit still and let the 12lbs pound away.. The mix divison will be my offensive arm as will my cav div held in reserve... This plan may not work, because I do not know how the game flows:-/ And none of the guys I game with have picked this up... Just looking for constructive critisim.. I really want a army with regular troops for the most part.. I do not want to be a power gamer for my first time out.. No guards ect:)

Re: What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
Hi Andy
My first thought on your list is that your mixed division is going to find it very hard to recover cohesion. 7 units, but you will only get 2 recovery attempts (one from the DC and one from your CC - who ideally should support your attacking force) in each of your recovery phases for troops in this division. If you intend to use this division as an attack force, I can see it getting bogged down.
I would consider breaking the 1st Division into a separate cavalry division and an infantry division - use the 60 points you spent on a skilled charismatic general to buy two competant DCs.
This would, for the same points, turn your current 3 CMTs per bound (2 command points plus the attached DC) into 4 (2 Command points in total plus 2 attached DCs) and also increase your recovery attempt rolls from 2 to 3. You could drop 10 points somewhere in the list and make the assault infantry division's DC charismatic.
You might also consider shuffling your infantry so that the assault formation contains the troops best suited to this. This would mean 2 x large average drilled units (maybe drop an attachment or two and get a 2nd large Musketeer unit) with rear support from a cheap small unit (ie the conscripts). Moving one of your brigade commander attachments to a large unit designed to assault would also be worth thinking about.
Amyway, just a thought ...
Cheers

Re: What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
p158 of TofN - Composition of Divisions
Mixed divisions can only contain 1 or 2 units of cavalry.
All divisions must contation a least 3 units.
If you're having an infantry division to just sit there with the artillery, you probably just want to keep the infantry as cheap as possible.
Therefore, move the Superior Grenadiers into your attacking division (and get a second unit if you can, supported by some conscripts). If you're planning on them fireing, then Veteran will be a better option with artillery / skirmisher attachments.

Re: What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
This raises a good point. The rules on page 16 allow a cavalry division of 2 cavalry units only. Infantry divisions have a minimum of 3 units. All divisions must contation a least 3 units.
ToN states that all divisions must have 3 units minimum.
I assume that ToN trumps the rules here?

Re: What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
Going by the list, up to 1 mixed divison may be usded which may contain up to 8 bases of dragoons and up to 6 bases of light cavalry.. All mixed and Infantry divisions MUST contain 3 Inf and 1 artillery unit... I didn't realize I could make a cav div out of my infantry list... I'll tinker with it some more.. DuncA I see what you are saying, but the list says otherwise.

I don't think this is legal. Your forth division needs at least 3 units unless there is something special which allows them to break that.

Re: What do you think about this list for Russian Inf Corps?
You could use some cossacks in your cavalry division . They give support and are a cavalry unit .So they could be used as rear echellon and support the other 2 front units
It seems to me you still use the list from the rule book or am I mistaken !
The rule for russian division is 3 infantry units + 1 art for infantry and mixed divisions only .
