Steam Testing

Hey guys!

We are looking for a small group of people to help us test Steam integration, achievements, localization and new content for the 30th May release.

Early access keys to the Steam builds will be sent via a private message. If you are interested, please post here and include what language and operation system you are using.

English, Mac OSX 10.9. I can also test on Win 7, and Win XP (I have VMs for both)

Initial observations of the version so far:

Balance:

The new Invasion mechanic should be a checkbox. I can see a lot of people really disliking this major change.

Gene therapy
Got this second turn, I don't know if this is a detriment to build early or not at the moment. is morale still linked to growth in 1.4.0? I got an arctic start again, so I'm already worried about outgrowing my food.

Steam Interface:
Clicking All Achievements just goes to my profile page, regardless of where you click it. This happens even after earning an achievement.

Overlay works well, shows in both the launcher and the main window.

I'll need someone to test multiplayer, my normal opponent (koriko) didn't make it to post for a key in time. I'll need to set up a time with someone to test multiplayer or get him a key.

Cloud saving to come. Working my way up on Quick.

Morale is no longer linked to growth.

Achievements thing is due to the game not yet being released, you can find a dirty list here: https://github.com/proxy-studios/pandor ... nglish.vdf

I'll send Koriko a key when I get up tomorrow, there's a Steam invite/join game bug I have to fix first as well.

Also note: some German and Italian translation strings are still outdated or missing.

I also think this would be helpful. Especially new players should be able to play their first game without the Invasion. It also could be helpful if the checkbox would stay available in the game as long as the Invasion has not been triggered. This way a beginner who does not know what the Invasion is could disable it later with a saved game once he learns that he is not prepared for it. A beginner who invested many hours into his first game then could avoid losing it to the Aliens Invasion by re-loading a saved game where the invasion has not been triggered and disabling the Invasion option.

SAVEGAMES: Please update the forum info about where to find the savegames.
I had troubles to locate them and finally found them here:
\STEAM\SteamApps\common\Pandora\Cache\cloud\savedgames\singleplayer\
Question: Is it really ok to store savegames in the Steam installation directory? Can people without admin rights really store savesgames there? I thought savegames belong into the user folder?

Some other games such as Star Lords e.g. do that as well, haven't faced any problems with that (except for the fact it's difficult to locate them).

My first impressions: Checkbox for Alien Invasion missing. Also, Avast is alarming again on 1.4.0 causing Pandora to crash. (Rok, we've been seeing this through before, I am sure you remember). You had fixed this meantime, because on the "non-steam" 1.3.5, everything was fine and Avast would not suspect Pandora. So whatever you did with non-steam 1.3.5, please do that to this build as well. ;)

I still would prefer savegames in the accessible user area.
For Windows systems, Microsoft even reserved a registry key for this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
{4C5C32FF-BB9D-43B0-B5B4-2D72E54EAAA4}

and

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]
{4C5C32FF-BB9D-43B0-B5B4-2D72E54EAAA4}

This also is where all my other Steam Games (Age of Wonders, Civilization, XCOM etc.) store their savegames.

Bug: In the unit workshop, I cannot rename a unit type if the name already contains a '-'
