I come back to my immediate world war scenario to explain it a little more:

CP declares war on USA and Spain at turn 1.
Entente declares war on Italy on turn 1.

Entente:
- Gets strongest possible ally (USA) on their side at game start.
- USA provide additional Generals/Admirals/Air Aces
- Starts with large Navy incl. many Light Cruisers and Dreadn.
- US an Royal Navy should have no problems ´owning´ the Atlantik and keep the Northsea Blockade intact
- German Navy will struggle to fight both Navies at the same time
- Entente can reenforce troops in France quicker as Spain is part of alliance and troops can be delivered there. This is 1 move quicker than to france.
- Spain can control the Strait of Gibraltar and close it easily, CP have problems to break out
- Spain can send poort quality reserve corps to southern france to hold off some italiens until US troops arrive

CP:
- Have a 3rd strong ally in central Europe with all research capabilities. This allows CP to focus research (Italy Airforce and Navy?)
- Serbia could be conquered quicker as some italians can help taking it (even via the sea) unlocking austrian potential earlier for eastern front
- French frontline overstretched from game start, southern border to italy is undefended
- Large italian and austrian combined Navy should easily be able to cripple the french and spanish Navy in the Med.
- No RN convoys should be able to survide a med. transit (?)
- CP can conduct amphib landing in Spain if sea control is acheived, leading to completely new frontlines
- Africa is under high threat, Italy and austia could invade either french or UK territories in northern france with little resistance.

And finally the many US and Italian Events become unimportant from game start. Both players can focus on other Events instead.

No idea if this is fair. I would be happy to play any side, CP or Entente. Just to find out how this play out.
I think it would lead to a significant increase of activities in the Med and the Atlantik and the Navy aspect would become much more important
(which is what I want to achieve as I like naval campaigns)

Think about it and write private. Maybe its unfair what I suggest, dont know. Lets find out.

Is there a way to list events already played? Cannot find anything. Would be a great add for future updates since when you play multiple matches it is easy to lose track.

Impossible to declare war on Italy until turn 6, this is hard-coded. Though, when Entente then does it also triggers instant Bulgarian and Turkish entry, which is pretty powerful.

I agree that such a feature is sorely missing but the game does not exactly encourage UI modding so even adding a simple button is a nightmare. I would have added a list of played/triggered events long ago if I knew how to mod in such a thing.

@trulster: I enjoy the game so far. Its totally different. I wrote a short summary about the first few turns here.

Initially i think Entente had an advantage because i declared war on turn 1 on usa but entente only on italy in turn 6.
However, this lead to a domino effect - Ottoman, Bulgaria and Italy joined CP on the same turn.
But the same domino effect allowed the Entente player to play with UK from turn one as they equally joined Entente once USA was at war.
The number of Entente Naval units everywhere is crazy.
So the scenario does feel like an instant major global war.

Few turns later my impression it that it is shifting again to Entente as the High-Tech US Troops are arriving in the European theatre.
US Navy and Army units start on level 6, 7 or even 8. The advantage stopped my attempt to attack france. I will just defend now.
They really bring 1916+ weapons to the frontline which makes it hard.

BUT: Its a great game. We continue. I have plenty of men, PP and reserves left with so many countries joining CP.
So maybe it works. Lets see.
Only option to rebalance could be, that CP also declares war on USA on turn 6 and not turn 1.

I have the same problem - It is not urgent or a big issue, i can play without it - but i still agree that it would help preveting players to do mistakes that have massive impact on the rest of the game. It would be one of these ´nice things to have on the interface´ issues - and actually it does already exists for the "Northsea Bloackade active", the Russian Supply Crises, British Supply Level and German Supply Level. These 4 events do have a little symbol when active. :idea: Thats very helpful.

I play multiple MP games at the same time and especially the following events make me do mistakes because i forget if they were active or not:
Normal players will not have these problems, i think its just the few players that play as much as we do :oops:
3-4 MP games plus a SP game is sometimes confusing.

Actually its only the Events that take place over some time / turns or that require ´active´ preperation.

1. Serbian Tyhpoid Crises (sometimes earlier, sometimes later, sometimes shorter because of medical aid etc.)
I sometimes dont know if its still active, has started or ended or if it will be shorter due to medical aid.
2. The Tarnov Offensive. Has my opponent played it in this game or in another?
3. Requesting Trieste - Italy will demand it earlier or later. But the 1 turn when the Homeguard must be removed must not not be missed,
Otherwise Italy massively favours Entente - sometimes i just forget to remove the troops which is a massive game changer.
4. The Gallipoli AmphibAssault...have i delayed it? Is Entente preparing for it? Did i sink hms hampshire? (I know the hint on the anzac event "expect a landing soon")
Thats vague and hard to remember in multiple, parallel MP games that are all on different stages i.e. Turn 3, 11, 23 and 36...

Most of the Events are game decisive, so a little symbol would help. For example a little red cross for the typhoid crises etc.
However, if not possible, dont worry.

Perhaps possible to code that after each turn a .txt file is generated listing all events played, with same filename prefix as save game name.

Brusilov Offensive, have chose this twice now, one vs AI and one in multiplayer. Despite manual saying:

"If triggered, will spawn a mix of up to 13 (about 8 on average) Russian infantry, cavalry or garrisons around
either Rovno, Shitomir or Kiev, whichever is closest to CP units and still under Russian control."

The only thing that show up are 1-2 units. Which makes for meagre bang for the buck.

Ofc, it could be I had horrible RNG twice, but this seems rather skewed. Perhaps the manpower cost should be tied to what you get? Would offset some pain in paying 250 manpower for 1-2 units.

The description in the manual is obsolete.

New units can only spawn on unoccupied friendly hexes within a radius of 2 hexes around the first eligible Russian city. The chance for a unit to spawn is 35% per hex which which at 18 hexes averages around 6 units or even less if the surrounding hexes are occupied or under enemy control.

Ah thanks. So players need to empty out city if they suspect this event is on the cards. That makes this event rather less useful, as the first Russian city will the majority of the time be on the frontline, filled with units of both sides.

Not necessarily. If Rovno was only just taken by CP the cluster would spawn around Shitomir which might have less units around it and so on.
The event might be a costly gamble for the Entente player but on the other hand conjuring up half a dozen units out of thin air can be pretty nasty under the right circumstances.

Also I've just had a look at the script and the proper order of Russian cities being checked apparently is: Rovno ---> Shitomir ---> Vinnitsa ---> Kiev.

Newly started game has a strange bug, crash to desktop when trying to bring up the "select event" screen.

Need more info.

Please provide the ctgw.log which is usually to be found in your Documents folder, so look in "My Documents\My Games\Commander The Great War".

NOTE: This log is overwritten every time you start the game. Please make a copy of the log immediately after the crash you want to report BEFORE reloading the game.

Put the ctgw.log and/or autosave.endturn files into a .zip or .rar archive and attach them to your post using the forum's "upload attachment" feature. You can find the upload button in the bottom left corner of the reply box after you click on "full editor and preview".

Alternatively you can just copy/paste and post the last few lines of the "error" message at the end of the ctgw.log, usually this holds enough information to fix a bug.

This is during turn 2, turn1 had the same crash to desktop bug. So obviously no savegame file, as the turn never ended.

Aha, so it's from a PBEM challenge. Good to know. :roll:

Apparently something is missing: a critical value was not initialized upon game start.
This is strange because without that value the mod must always crash.
You were able to play multiplayer challenges before so the fault is likely caused by your opponent using an outdated version.
Who opened the challenge by the way?

Most likely reasons for the crash issue:
- PBEM game between players with different versions of the mod
- could also be caused by applying an update after the match was started. Don't do that.

Both players must use the same mod version which is 11.21 from NOV10th.

Yes, makes sense opponent must have wrong mod version, since other multis work fine.

New PBEM bug, UK convoy is stuck one turn from England for 2-3 turns, does not move. Could have to do with French surrender? Also, new convoys do not seem to spawn.

Hi guys,

Hope you are having good times with your families.
I have rediscovered the story of the Chinese Labours Corps (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Labour_Corps), I don't know if you knew there story ?
Maybe we could create a new event for France and England that makes China entering into the war in 1917 and then both countries have their manpower growing up from 10 points ? What do you think about it ?
