2. Ask your opponent if he saw that cavalry retreat with unit strength 4 or if he saw it destroyed. For some reason destroyed units are sometimes displayed as retreating during replay.
Yes, that is: the replay was showing an alternate reality. I was like thinking on that cav as an anchor and then I became completely disapointed with the truth. : )

Hi Robotron, I have been looking at some of your mod events and I can't find where the "right to passage" event is written. I can't find it in game_events neither game_diplomacy files, could you tell me where it is? I'm looking for the units change in Ypres. After a few months I've returned to play your great mod, thanks for your job :D

It's at line 2717 in game_diplomacy.lua

The spawning of smallgarrisons as a replacement for all Belgian units is at line 2810.

Note that this only happens in singleplayer mode.

I plan to upload V9.3 this weekend. As always you players can propose fixes to stuff you think to be of importance or else wait until V9.4. ^^

@Robotron
1) Tanks are overpowered. Especially their base defense.
2) Fighters can dig in and have defense value like garrisons. This makes them ridiculously strong in ground defense.
3) Units gain passive experience too quickly. In fact, units not participating in combat become more experienced than those who participate.

Okay.

1. basic tank stats slightly lowered, bonus from enhancement techs slightly raised

2. removed entrenching ability from all air units

3. automatic experience gain per turn halved. Experience loss from repair halved.

Please look at this wunderwaffe(from my game with onnp), is it normal? I got 3 level tanks in the summer of 1917.
Maybe this screenshot will help you balance tanks better.

Obviously it's not normal but rather likely was achieved by playing "Research funding" and/or "Gunther Burstyn".

I think there is a bug in "Trento donation" event. If, for any reason, you have no unit in Trento when the event triggers, automatically the donation is triggered without waiting a turn. I think It happened to me because I disbanded the smallgarrison detached in Trento, so I had no unit in the hex. Sadly, I have no log file :|

uncomment the line by removing the -- at the beginning so that it is no longer skipped (lines beginning with -- are skipped)
and change "==" into "<="

@ Robotron :
1- I'm still playing with Argentum a V.9 game and it's turn 46.
2- Last turn (45), Serbian surrendered - I got "Serbia surrender" message and, surprisingly, a "USA surrender" message.
3- I could check this turn (46) that the USA are still at war ! The previous surrender message is probably a bug.
Unfortunately, I don't have the log file.

V9.3 is out:

What was changed:

1. Strassburg is now a fortress as per historical fact of a large fortress belt around the city
2. all units will lose 50% less experience from replacing losses
3. experience per turn for units lowered
4. tank upgrade tech research time raised quite a bit
5. tanks start with lower stats, upgrades are better now
6. CP "Gunther Burstyn" tank research event made harder to attain
7. tank production time lowered to 3 (was 4)
8. rewritten "Research funding" events for both alliances: they are slightly boosted but will exclude tank research as per event info text because tank research has its own events (Swinton/Burstyn)
9. Italian entry to CP made a bit harder: CP will struggle to have BOTH Italy and Turkey on her side because of animosity from recent 1911 Italo-Turkish war
10. Royal navy experience loss for NOT playing "BRITISH ROYAL NAVY REVIEW" reduced from 50% to 33%
11. fixed bug from "France invades Belgium" event where hexes were left neutral
12. Bomber ammo consumption lowered from 3 to 2
13. "Fritz Haber" event will gain more bonus ammo for Germany per turn, this will increase with each year passed up to +10 per turn
14. convoys will gain more bonus ammo for Germany if not damaged too much
15. "Flash spotting" artillery tech will consume 2 ammo if executing counter-battery fire, "Sound ranging" tech adds another 3 ammo for better results
16. French artillery starting tech level increased, British artillery starting tech level slightly increased
17. Russian surrender events after taking Petrograd and/or Moscow hopefully fixed
18. Entente naval deployment crash into Red Sea hexes fixed by removing port facility from Yanbu city
19. removed fighter/bomber/zeppelin ability to entrench (can use existing trenches though, they are deemed to be accompanied by ground troops for defense)
20. "Trento Donation" event fixed so that CP player has time to vacate the Trento hex
21. MOAR bugfixes!!!1!11!!eleven!2! (like no "German Offensive in France Ends" and worse!)
22. winter sound loop enhanced (less distortion)
23. updated V9.3 PDF manual
24. NO Spanish war involvement events, from all what I've read Spain had way too much to do with internal problems and going to war would have meant a civil war :P

AS ALWAYS: updating the game while SP/MP matches are in progress will mean they will crash beyond help...so finish them and THEN do the update!

@kossatx: patriotic feelings aside: what could possibly have justified a Spanish entry into WW1?

1. 1898 Spain suffered a crushing defeat from the US, ceding almost all of her colonies. The navy is almost wiped out.

2. in 1907 Britain, France and Spain agreed to preserve the status quo in the Pact of Cartagena.

3. Spain supplied the Entente with weapons and raw materials to such an extreme content that because of import/export and industrial/agricultural imbalances Spain suffered a severe economical crisis.

4. Spanish supplies were in dire demand even with Italy having joined the Entente. Should Italy have joined CP the Entente demands for Spanish supplies would even be higher. Clearly Spain was more valuable for the Entente by providing supplies than by actually joining the war with a weak army/navy.

5. If Spain would have joined CP then Spain would not only be isolated from the rest of the Central Powers but would provoke a furious reaction from Britain and most of all the US. Spain would have suffered from the Entente blockade in a way much worse than from the Spanish merchant ships that were sunk by German submarines.

6. Right-wing traditionalists/aristocrats would find it difficult to find their views represented by an alliance led by a federal Germany ruled by a protestant Kaiser. Left-wing workers and intellectuals would find it difficult to fight on the side of a British monarchy or even an authoritarian Russian Tsar who had no problems to have protesting workers shot in 1905.

I really don't know how to think up a chain of plausible events that could lead to a Spanish DOW to either alliance.
Maybe if France is already on the verge of collapsing and Britain is starving and the Royal Navy got wiped out before...

@Robotron : USA, GB and France were still there in turn 46.

I'm now on turn 47 and sadly GB and France surrendered ! The USA are still at war (not for long...). :)
