This is just a patch, basically. It enables you to purchase and play the newest DLC, Red Star, but you do not need to own Red Star in order to update to version 8.1.0 and obtain the improvements shown above.

If you need the base game, however, you must be a member, log into your account, and go here: https://www.slitherine.com/members/publicDL.asp?gid=516

You will need both files for a complete installation: base version 7.1.4 and the patch 8.1.0.

If you already have 7.1.4/7.1.8 installed, however, just follow one of the links that Alberto provides above and download the update. Note: Extract both files contained in the downloaded file. One is obviously the installer (.exe) but the other is like a "Part 2" if you will; it contains additional data and the installer knows what to do with it:

I've been meaning to ask, but whenever a new update or patch is released (like 8.1.0), does it make our older home-made scenarios, screenshots and tutorials etc obsolete because they were created with older versions?
Or will they run ok with 8.1.0?

It is my uneducated, unofficial opinion that everything old (at least, from recent versions) will run fine with 8.1.0 because there is nothing in that changelist which is so fundamentally and significantly different that it would change the way old scenarios and campaigns play. What you will not be able to do, however, is to play any new stuff that has been designed in 8.1.0 and includes the new Soviet commanders, specialisations, and units (and even a couple of things in 7.1.8 by Erik who began to use this new stuff which first appeared in that version) unless your game is updated to 8.1.0. This includes Red Star itself, of course.

If you are talking about the technical and perhaps arcane matters that you and Erik were discussing in your "Adjacent Hex Movement" and "River Effects" threads (see the Scenario Design forum), then I feel compelled to mention that although you and he may have good points, such things come under the heading of "design decisions" (or non-decisions) rather than bugs to be fixed. Erik said that he had been asking for a particular change "since before the game was published. No luck yet." I am sure that the developers received the message and for one reason or another, they have not granted his wish. Coming from him, I am sure the request received due deliberation. What you and Erik are asking for are feature requests.

Thanks, I only hope newcomers to OOB won't get confused when odd things start happening during their gameplay depending on what version they're running..:)

Remind me what's wrong with rivers and roads in 8.1.0. mate, I played the first Red Star battle in the campaign yesterday and didn't notice any bugs.
At least they've fixed the vehicle graphics glitch..:)

That's my point. He's not talking about bugs but requests for changing the way the game treats roads and rivers. Look at those threads that I mentioned. I'm not necessarily defending the developers, the game, or version 8.1.0 but I would like to see us focus our energy on any true bugs that we discover. Those should be reported in the "Current Bugs - Version 8.1.0" thread in the Tech Support forum. The developers take the other stuff "under advisement." Or not.

Change History (more detailed :!: ):

[See opening post which was edited to be more inclusive of the changes that occurred with Red Star in beta. That listing is properly formatted for clarity.]

I cannot downlaod v8.10

Sliterene Support pointed me to a mirroe downlaod site

https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewto ... 64&t=93445

Where I could upgrade to v8.10 from a mirror site. HOWEVER when the file is downloaded and extracted it requires the incertion of Disc 2 whatever that is to continue with the install. Of course there is no Disc 2 and the installtion crashes.

You need to download and run the Red Star update (using the serial number).
You should find the Red Star in the members area.
