Thx for the update!
scn sov1_12_Rostov
- changed "early victory" and "Rostov" objective triggers
means that the hotfix is no longer needed and that the patch will overwrite the hotfix?

You can find the PC and Mac updates here: https://www.matrixgames.com/game/order- ... -war-ii/pc - scroll down to "Downloads."

And yes, Rood, I believe this portion of the changelog addresses that situation by overwriting the Rostov scenario.scz file:
----------------------------------------------------
RED STAR
----------------------------------------------------
scn sov1_12_Rostov
- changed "early victory" and "Rostov" objective triggers

That's the usual procedure for updating DLC content but it will not affect existing saved games. The scenario would have to be restarted.

Thanks, nice update with many new units and specs - for the upcoming DLC, I presume - but again you forgot the new texts, unit names and descriptions...

That's intentional, they are added with Red Steel, which is not part of this patch.

I'm sad. I planned my Christmas holidays playing with Red steel and PC2 ... I discover that neither of them will be available for that period. Do you want to force me to go to the Christmas markets?!?

Same here ... After I first opened the game: I got to the MOD page OK ... clicked on the Battle of Britain side ... received an error message a red X with something about a thread failure. Closed out, restarted, and all appears well now!

From what I can tell, these are the new units:

This list is unofficial! It is just my speculation, based on looking at the units.csv file from the 8.3.0 patch and correlating it with what I see in the scenario editor. It is subject to change until the time when they release the next DLC.

That said, it is exciting to see a bunch of new Soviet units and a few German, Hungarian, and Romanian units thrown in! Here they are:

They all need to be named. However, they all look fine on the map. Only three units look a bit fuzzy in the control panel; Romanian and Hungarian infantry units #2329, 2330, and 2333:

The animations were all fine as were the "kills" - no white ghosts (look away if you are squeamish  ):

Look, I get it. But my question was rather: why now, with this update?

As far as I could see, the new units and specs are already fully integrated into the current game. Basically, one can buy, upgrade and use all the new units - some even inside official DLCs, some with custom content and the editor. There are no "noeditor" or "nopurchase" traits assigned to the new units. All that's missing are the texts. Again the question, why release the new content in an unfinished state?

I would understand an "unofficial public beta" test for the new units and specs, if all the descriptions were available.

But like this, it looks simply unfinished or - in the worst case - broken for new players, causing unnecessary confusion.
However, this is only my opinion and maybe I'm just asking silly questions...

You have a point, Gabe. Going by recent custom, this was rather unusual to release a patch before a new DLC. Other than the Red Star / Rostov hot fix (and unlike, God forbid, that unit graphics issue a while back), there was no pressing need for the patch to be released at this time.

Well, I'll take that back; there was this that some folks have been quite concerned about: "Added missing texts for all languages." I'm sure they will appreciate this without having to wait for Red Steel.

Even so, I see no harm and to the extent that it indicates the developers are taking care of their clientele by releasing a patch earlier than with the release of DLC, which I'm sure is more work, I salute them. To me, if anything it's a step in the right direction.

You know, personally I don't mind at all. The game's stable, I like the RedStar DLC very much, the reported issues in the scens have been fixed and we've got some cool new units and specs. But I've been with this game for a long time now and I know its ups and downs.

And to be honest - even if a little bit sad that I'm not going to be able to play the new DLC during the holidays - I can use this time to update my mod with the new units and maybe even add some of my own. It'll be less hassle doing it now than when RedSteel's going to be released.

My only point was, that some less experienced players and newcomers may not like having these kind of "issues" with every new patch. Like missing localization with RedStar and now this. It gives the game an unprofessional look, which it does not deserve IMO. I love this game. Sometimes I may take a little break from it, but it just keeps pulling me back... somehow... :D

I think this was a good idea as I know "Red Steel" isn't ready to be released yet. I thought "Red Star" was released too soon before they had made sure there were no bugs but all that seems to be fixed now.
Although I'm buried in one of Erik's campaigns right now, when I'm done, I'll play "Red Star" again and see if there is any difference.
By the way, it took two times but I updated to 8.3.0 right from the "Update" on the game itself. Big update! Kept going back and forth trying to download from the site. No big deal.
