Silent Guns

Post by Philippeatbay » Wed Jun 01, 2016 11:39 pm

I've been playing a user made scenario and have noticed that there is no marching/creaking/clankng sound when light artillery moves.

The problem seems to affect both sides so it isn't side specific.

Light artillery does, however, make a firing sound when it fires. It's just weird to see those guns sliding silently around the battlefield.

I don't think this is a feature of that particular scenario, but I'll keep an eye out for it next time I play a canned scenario.

Addendum: I just fired up a skirmish in the Roi Soleil set and Swedish light artillery was gliding around silently. The issue can be reproduced and affects the vanilla game.

This was deliberate as they are small units and are being man-handled. You can always add a sound for them if you like. I can explain how if you don't already know.

Much to my surprise I may have found a sound that would work for this (one of the infantry marching sounds in Battle Academy and BA2.

Only way to be sure is to test it, so yes, a few hints would be appreciated.

(Hmm. Just listened to it again, and I think the game may already have a sound that does the same thing. So it might just be a question of adding a unit type to that particular sound).

I'm guessing that I need to do something to the sfx text file (not sure what) as well as some kind of config file located somewhere else.

I may have to edit/alter/change the sound file that I was thinking of using (it needs a little more creaking and a few less footsteps), but that's probably something I can figure out how to do in Goldwave (my sound editing program).

You need to add your new sound effect filename (minus the file extension) to

\Data\sfx0.txt

perhaps give it ID 324 (To avoid clash if you do the same in Sengoku Jidai)

Then edit the light artillery anims folder:

\Data\Battle\Units\Light_Guns.txt

Add

SFX 1 324

to the [MOVE00] section
