I have put up a couple of Sengoku Jidai MP challenges if anyone would like to give me a damned good thrashing. (Obviously you need to download the MP version of the mode in game first - this can be done from the Historical menu. You won't see it appear in the Historical menu, but you will be able to accept MP Sengoku Jidai challenges).)

This is an amazing piece of work, far beyond what anyone else has managed so far.

One tiny quibble/question: should not foot samurai be armed as a primary weapon with those famous two-handed swords of theirs, i.e. 'heavy weapons' (not swordsmen) in P&S parlance?

You've probably considered that already, may even be in a thread I've already skipped past to get to the meaty bits.

But a whole new standard to aim for. Brilliant.

Actually no. In this period, in battle, they mainly used Yari, in the preceding period, Naginata.

(Scrub one wargaming myth).

The swords are sidearms. As stated in the manual, samurai will always use their yari more than their swords/ katana because it is more practical in the battlefield. It was a trusty side arm that was carried all the time and used when their spears broke. It was used for decapitations (they have to present the heads of their slain enemies to the daimyo after the battle). The sword was immortalized during the Edo era where no wars are fought. It was a time when the bow, spear and arquebus are not needed anymore. The romantic image of a sword wielding samurai that single-handedly battles several foes persisted until modern times.

Quick bit of feedback just started a skirmish game and when choosing my forces found that the wide range of troops to choose from meant that the total points remaining as I spend them on buying troops was obscured. Really nice work though :D :D :D :D

Really? Never noticed that in my tests. What's your screen resolution? iPad or Desktop? But I can't really help you with that as it's a game engine thing.

I am in the process of playing two MP Sengoku Jidai games - one Open Battle and one where I am Defending.

It is much more tactical than I thought it would be.

Thanks. I initially feared that the homogeneous armies were bland. Gland you liked it.
Someday, the Koreans and the Chinese will find their way in the mod but I have to do the Historical Scenarios first.

Great work and congratulations.
Please dont get me wrong, but your mod shows a weak point of "Pike and shoot ". In any way ist looks eaqual to the 30 years war and the other wars.
I had no real Sengoku Feeling. The reason is clear , you see no real units only a mass of things.
An if there should be a 7 years war or a napoleonic Pike and shoot game it will always be the same look in anyway. In the long run the decision not to
create real Units for the game will be a funkiller i think.
But this is only my personally opinion, maybe i"m totally wrong. As i said, dont get me wrong , this game is oustanding work .
For this mod i think creating japanese landscape and houses is important to get a sengoku feeling.

Thats ok. That's because I just reskinned the existing units an not make completely new units like the honjin. I am still new at this 3d thing.

Have not had much time to play your mod after d/l, but looks and feels "right on" ! Congrats and thank you for releasing

Only thing "odd" I notice is the AI seems to be very hesitant to buy cavalry in skirmish battles. Had a few medium size where the Ai only had 1 or no cavalry units. Not sure if this is the intent or not, or just some mystery in the code :)
