Scenario creation
Hello again,
The editor seems kind of buggy. The "validate scenario" and "options" menus don't work, and when in-game, my test scenario has no tiles and I'm able to move every units, whether or not I specify what factions go in what side.
Is it currently possible to make a custom scenario right now ?

Re: Scenario creation
There's more than one layer to the map. First you set op the actual terrain, then the tiles are overlayed. To make it pretty, with sides connecting.
Re: Scenario creation
Ok thanks, I didn't get the difference between tiles and terrain (spacebar is your friend).
But... When I play the map, I can control all the units, how can I tell the game who is Side 1 and who is Side 2 ?

Re: Scenario creation
Dunno, I get the message too, everytime when saving, but ignore it and my scenario still works.

Re: Scenario creation
Where do you save it to? I place it in the date folder but it does not show in the game.Latro wrote:Dunno, I get the message too, everytime when saving, but ignore it and my scenario still works.
Re: Scenario creation
You have to edit the name of your scenario file into the file scenarios.whdat, for it to show up.
I used excel for that.

Re: Scenario creation
Open the file scenarios.whdat with excel. Add your scenario to the list. That's it, really.
Of course, always make a copy of the original file first.
Or you could use Notepad++

Re: Scenario creation
And Latro, about units and sides ?

Re: Scenario creation
That's all in the editor.
Scenario parameters looks a bit daunting at first. Just play around with it a bit, it's relatively straight forward.

Re: Scenario creation
Yep I've got it all, I think
Blood Angels on Side 1, Orks on Side 2. But I'm still able to play both sides.

Re: Scenario creation
Have you set the control, in the sides tab, to player for the BA and to AI for the Orks ?
Re: Scenario creation
Hmm I left it to Player or AI, because I thought it was the way to be able to play on both sides.
EDIT : doesn't work either if I set one side to Player and the other one to AI.

Re: Scenario creation
How to open the scenario file in exel?
Re: Scenario creation
The editor can supposedly create maps for both single player and multiplayer. The .whloc file is the general informations about the scenario, and the .whscn is the scenario itself, which you cannot edit in Excel. To create a scenario, you must go through the scenario editor. However, to see your scenario in the editor, you must add a line in scenarios.whdat for single player, and/or scenarios_mp.whdat for multiplayer.
The problem is that there are some bugs, and I still didn't figure how to tell the game which units belong to which side (parameters settings don't seem to work properly in this regard).

Did you read what I wrote ... ?
To edit a scenario you use... the scenario editor.
EDIT : ok maybe you mean the scenario.whdat file ? Simply open XL or OpenOffice, and drag & drop, or use the Windows extension menu to always open these extensions with Excel.
