Landsknechts and Prussians - Round Three

Post by ahuyton »

1600, a new century and the French peasants are burning their rosaries and demanding freedom from the Habsburgs...

Open battle
Large armies, wide terrain
Agricultural terrain

Note that sadly Dang has retired from the competition, but happily TheGrumpyDoge replaces him. Welcome to Josh.

Match-ups (Huguenots first v Austrians)

Kiwiwarlord (Captain) v Cromlechi
AlexdeTrojan v Marl_Boroman
Gdod v Pancalvus
GentlemanRanker v Awesum4
TheGrumpyDoge v Tomoegozen
SMJohnso77 v Snugglebunnies
ahuyton v Gribol
Warrior230 v Snooky51

French Huguenots to launch the games please, but if the other side does it first don't worry just accept and play.

Good luck!

Report from the front: After a very chaotic battle against the Imperialists it is my great shame to report that the battle was a resounding loss. Huguenots 49 routed, Imperialists 10 routed. In a very unusual showing, our Swiss keils were completely ineffective. They will be disbanded and sent back to their cantons with only half pay. It is obvious that insufficient propitiations were offered to the gods of war pre battle. Well played General Marl.

The field was quiet on this early spring morning, mist coiling around the feet of the mighty Swiss Keels as they prepared for a march into the battlefield. The day was warming well and tactics were clear.. advance at a double march and contact the enemy beyond the woods. With the sound of horns and the beat of drums the army scattered across the battlefield.
The dragoons and shot were hiding in the woods to the north, ahh the sneaky advanced guard were placed well. The Cav all moved around the southern wood.. CATATSTROPHY those dastardly $^%^$#$ r's had beaten us to the southern woods, they must have marched all night and lay in waiting.. Disruption weaved its way through the southern flank. Only a couple of well placed shots from the line made it difficult for the enemy to come out in full force.
My dragoons claimed the first casualties as they charged the cannons in front of them, but they were soon dispersed themselves being charged off and then flanked, what a start.. Those swiss can handle a lot of shooting.
Thanks Tomo for a great reintroduction to the game, its been a few years. I did do a few sneaky git moves though :-)

Obviously language problems between the French, Swiss and their knowledge of our great language Alex. You did well disbanding the Swiss.
I suggest that you return to the Academy and start drilling your army for our next encounter against the Austrian 1675-1688 army.

Gribol (Austrian) win with Ahuyton (Hugenot) 59:28, after a fierce fight (especially against those damn Swiss).

Victory for the French!! 63-41
Following a challenging and tactical engagement against lord snookey51, we can now report that the imperialists have been defeated and sent packing!
It was a hard fought game, with many ferrocious hand to hand fights, but dispite the collapse of one of our Swiss heavy foot near the end, our superior firepower and gut determination carried the day! We rejoice in the advancement of our cause, and begin preperations for our next encounter!

Awesum4 narrowly beats Gentleman ranker 60% to 56%.

He had a great defensive position between a small forest on his left edge of the battlefield and a large forest in the centre. I bought all the huge blocks of foot I could with only a few skirmishers with the cunning plan being to push our way through the gap, survive the shooting and engage in hand to hand with our units mostly being twice the size of his.
It mostly worked, he had bought lots of light foot who swarmed out of the centre forest, followed by some later tercios, these blew away an early tercio and several of my light foot. My big blocks hit and we slogged away for quite a while until eventually his units broke due to accumulated. His single Swiss pike block did great slaughter and broke a couple of my foot and then a couple of cavalry units.
I eventually managed to clear the small forest using cavalry against his light foot and then move into the rear of his foot to get rear charges.
He was very unlucky with his defense of the small forest otherwise he would have won the game.

It was good tough battle, and most enjoyable

For the purpose of starting the next round assume ours is a draw. We have ten rounds or so left (I am behind), I am not sure if Gdod intents on finishing them, I'm fine with it either way.
