The eternal battle - English v Scottish - Round Four, Civil War
So a hundred years have passed since the Scots of Round 3 annexed Northumberland, Cumbria and parts of Yorkshire, making York the seat of the Scottish King.
Now, Civil War has broken out and King Charles I is severely challenged. North of the border the Scots Covenanters threaten the old order but the loyal and devoted Montrose has raised a rag bag army of Irish, Highlanders and assorted villains to challenge the fiercely puritanical Covenanters.
Victory to Montrose might just give Charles the impertus he needs to defeat the Rebellion.
O, to o Auldearn, where the Scots play the Covenanters and the English play Montrose.

Hello everyone, and particularly the Scottish side. It seems that Fybyyn is out of action at the moment and has not finished the game in the last round.
Could I have a volunteer to play a second Auldearn against Foyley50 please?

Re: The eternal battle - English v Scottish - Round Four, Civil War
Royalist victory! 66%/25% “And God Save The King”
The battle of Garlic Hill (as it turned out to be) has been won by the loyal royalist supporters led by warrior Montrose, following a difficult and exhausting fight!
Although we tried to lure the Covenanters into our flanking trap, the cunning Mc’Peter was having none of it, and set about skilfully digging into strong defensive positions around the higher slopes of Garlic hill, making it necessary to assault the said slopes! With our flanking forces simultaneously attacking the Western and Easters approaches, we assailed the forward slopes under cover fire from our light guns.
Following a viscous and furious melee at the summit, the lads, driven on by their passion and loyalty for the real King (of England) pushed the raging covenanters off the top and sent them fleeing in panic, ensuring victory for the day, and indeed…for England!
Many thanks to Peterthepainter for a fun and enjoyable game.

Well played Sir Warrior Montrose,
the King is well pleased with your efforts, and will no doubt shower you with lands and titles confiscated from the rebels once the King's peace is restored.

Congratulations to Warrior230 on a battle well fought (thought?). That "Scottish" English army won despite my force being more numerous and making you fight uphill. Until a couple of turns from the end it was much closer but once the routing set in amongst the Pike and Shot units the end was sudden. Beware fellow Covenanters!warrior230 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 12:10 pm Royalist victory! 66%/25% “And God Save The King”

Kerry has had major problems with his computer. So rather than delay his battle with snooky51 I stepped in and started playing the game, with the intention that Kerry would take over once his computer was working again.
Unfortunately Kerry's computer problems were fatal, for the computer, and for Kerry's access to P&S. He now has a new computer, but still no access to P&S. As we are now fairly advanced in the game, with both of us having taken loses from both shooting and melee, Snooky and I have agreed to carry the battle to its conclusion

Thanks for the battle.

Re: The eternal battle - English v Scottish - Round Four, Civil War
I'm sorry to report that despite having God and the only correct interpretation of scripture on our side, the dastardly English have prevailed.
Our use of English locals to report on our opponent deceived us into thinking we were facing Lord Kerry of d. Unbeknownst to us until the heat of battle, his trusted steed named Hewlett-Packard had fallen ill and he could not ride to the mustering ground. Instead Lord Awesum the 4th led the English.
Since we had prepared strategems to rout Lord Kerry they were inadequate for our new opponent so that is why we lost, and the loss had absolutely nothing to do with exposing our flanks, therefore no official inquiry is necessary.

I've found it to be good form to never, ever, ask a confused person, or a Scotsman, to explain any point of scripture.
To ask a confused Scotsman to explain scripture is to enter a long dark tunnel that can only end in madness...

SnuggleBunnies (Covenanters) defeats GDod (Royalist) 63-57
An absurdly close match, GDod played superbly. The grit and determination of my cavalry (barely) saved the day...

It was a case of snatching defeat from victory. This was caused by snuggles's brilliant defense, which was based on a persist use of lights and counterattack even though he had resigned himself to a defeat. Out but not down he recovered his senses and fought on brilliantly. His disordered and recovered light lancers in the rough held 2 units of royalist horse almost for 2/3rd s of the game with neither side breaking off, or causing a casualty. Meanwhile, more royalist horse sealed the armies fate when they couldn't break another light lancer, even after the recovering from disorder, and being uphill. The royalist's are still scratching their heads figuring out where it all went wrong!

Re: The eternal battle - English v Scottish - Round Four, Civil War
Round 4 Result, KiwiWarlord playing Fybyyn's Covenaters 41%, defeats Doyley50's Royalists 62%.
A surprise ending to what we thought was going to be a drawn game but on the very last combat of the last turn a Cavalry engagement between two Covenanter Cavalry units & one Royalist unit erupted from the usual 0 or 1 casualty to Rout of the Royalist unit bringing the Royalists over the 60%.
A game of much manoeuvre atop & around Garlic Hill.
