I erased the settings folder (again) and it did the trick. Now my tug is floating seamlessly. I'm still dealing with the first version and I believe that around 30 turns will suffice for the job to be done. I also add a little bit more resources for the allied side, since, despite the number of units available, mobility is not the name of this scenario.

Courage, I hope that the computer will not make variants. 8) And I think we're not really in a hurry...

"I believe that around 30 turns will suffice for the job to be done" Thanks for this feedback! For a margin of safety, one might perhaps consider 36 turns? :?: (A pretty decent number, and somehow elegant - if I do say so myself.)

Bru, I think there is no need to concentrate more the apparition of the different waves of enemy aircraft than in v0.34 ... well, maybe a little, if you wish so, but not much at least.

Free France 1940-1945 v0.35 has been uploaded. It includes the following changes to the Operation Diadem scenario.

Free France 1940-1945 (thirteen scenarios)

- Reduced total number of turns from 48 to 36.
- As a result of that, removed last rain episode and two final Luftwaffe waves — you fellows were not seeing them anyway.

Sorry, no armour with the Italian column. Fanaticism and loyalty to Generale di Divisione Giacomo Appiotti were the plausible reasons why the 3rd Blackshirt Division "21 Aprile" would rally around him but there is no indication that the division had any tanks. It's not likely that they would commandeer, and know how to operate, an abandoned tank along the way or that their zealotry would inspire a strange tank crew to join them. As for the prototype tank that was never produced, I would not include it even if it is offered in OOB.

In the first version, I needed 37 turns to reach MV. Western positions resistance was tougher then I expected. I also may have managed poorly my units, so, in the next attempt I´ll try and see if I can make it in 36.

Ugh. I thought 36 turns was a bit low. Also, we have to make provisions for less experienced players.

:o But 48 is definitely too much... so I would say max from 40 to 42. But we may have better to wait for the result of the next Masca's attempt.

Didn´t finish, yet, but 42-44 seems to be fair.

Weeeeeell, there are two similar ones in the MarineCorps DLC, then there's the first scen of Erik's "SeaLion" campaign that has three segments and the "Spanish Prelude" mod-campaign has even one with SEVEN sub-maps...

Hats off to those folks, for I found it not a very easy thing to shift smoothly from one quadrant to the next. Yes, it was the memory of one of those DLC — was it U.S. Marine Corps? — that prompted me to try this. I copied that designer's use of the "underwater railway" as boundary markers. :)

In case you are interested, here are the order and the subjects of the four quadrants:

1) Battle of Koh Chang (the commander of La Combattante supposedly served as XO aboard the French cruiser in that one).

2) A generic location in the English Channel (La Combattante helps to rescue a shipwrecked crew).

3) Slapton Sands, the site of the disastrous Exercise Tiger (La Combattante "happens" to be in the area to help fight the German E-boats).

4) The town of Courseulles on Juno Beach on D-Day, (where La Combattante has drawn bombardment duty ahead of the invasion by the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division).

Free France 1940-1945 v0.36 has been uploaded. It includes the new La Combattante scenario and the following changes:

- Operation Diadem returned to 42 turns total.
- Several new campaign popup messages before and after recent scenarios.

Free France 1940-1945 (fourteen scenarios)

These are the objectives for La Combattante. At first, only the highlighted objectives appear for the first quadrant. As the player advances to each successive quadrant, a primary and a secondary objective are enabled:

Screenshot 10.jpg
Screenshot 10.jpg (145.92 KiB) Viewed 173 times

This is the scenario description:

Various times and places leading up to D-Day
Four stories about the Free French destroyer La Combattante as told by Chief of Staff Admiral Portier to General Charles de Gaulle. The stories are based on actual events although the participation of the ship and its commander in these events are somewhat fictionalized. La Combattante did escort convoys in the English Channel and elsewhere; it rescued downed airmen and shipwrecked crews; it fought with German E-boats; and it bombarded the town of Courseulles on D-Day. There is no evidence that Capitaine Andre Patou was at the Battle of Koh Chang, and La Combattante played no role in Exercise Tiger. Admiral Portier is, of course, entirely fictional.

I'm taking the Invasion of Elba out of the lineup for three reasons:

1) It was accomplished mostly by French and British commandos, which are weak and boring in OOB. Regular troops did mostly mop-up work and the whole thing was over in a couple of days.

2) It's another Mediterranean island invasion scenario that disrupts the flow from Normandy to Falaise to Dragoon to Paris to Strasbourg. It's another "French Colonial Infantry" sideshow when the focus on Free French military forces ought to be now in France, where they are becoming an army to be respected.

3) Speaking of "French Colonial Infantry," I see that the "2nd Groupe de Tabors Marocains" was involved on Elba and, sure enough, they indulged in their nasty habits again, although on a smaller scale than in Cassino. I really don't want to work with these units again and have to delve into the subject once more.

Therefore, Elba will be mentioned in a campaign popup message between Operation Jedburgh and Falaise Pocket; that is all. This reduces the projected total number of scenarios to 21; seven more to go.

On the other hand, with the time that I will save on bypassing Elba, I may find another topic of interest later on.

I did find something. Back up to 22 scenarios in total. :)
