Polaris Sector Alliance 1.0b converts the new 4x game from Slitherine at a Star Wars 4x game very similar at concept to the old SW Rebellion game but with the new features and mechanics from Polaris Sector. However, it adds several new features thought exclusively for modding.

This is the mod installation instructions:

Remove your designs folder at ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\.. folder.

Remove the imgsize.ht in the ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\..

Uncompress the mod in the game folder ..\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Polaris Sector\..

You will see a new folder into the original game folder named Polaris_Sector_Alliance, do not rename it.

After uncompress the mod, enter the mod folder named Polaris_Sector_Alliance and copy the REMEMBER.CFG inside the Polaris_Sector_Alliance folder into the ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\.. folder.

There are more type of units and the name types have been changed.

All the ground units have been replaced by units from each faction.

The tech has been adapted for be more from SW with new weapons, items and more.

Superweapons. The Galactic Empire and Hutt Cartel can build the Death Star and the Dark Saber. Both can destroy enemy planets. The Galactic Empire can research and build a super station, the mini Death Star. With a super laser, it can destroys all type of ship with one shot.

There are several customized planets. The Coruscant type is one of them.

Star Wars names of planets have been added.

The game counting time has been changed and now it count by hours. You can build units at days or months. Upgrades are faster.

Maintenance balance. The unkeep values from the space units have been reduced and now more easily you can build a big amount of ships (if you have the resources). Now you will not lose them easily by lack of resources.

The music has been replaced by original Star Wars music.

Several sounds from weapons and other things have been added.

Several customizations around the code.

Yesterday I discovered how fix the problem with the zoom where you can not get a closer look from big ships. It can be fixed adding additional movies from units with a size closer to the big size from these units in game.

If you do not know, these are not 3D models, they are rotations from 3D models recorded at a video file which it is divided at frames, 320 images, one for each frame from the video.

But there is a problem. I can not make videos where the model has a size from 2048x2048. By this reason, my unique option is increase the size from a smaller image and this is one of the reasons from the lose of quality when the zoom is too close to one big ship.

The other reason for the lose of quality with a closer zoom, it is the size from the png files, without compression a 4096x4096 image, the bigger for the Death Star, it would be huge and without reduce the detail, even if it is a lot smaller, it would be too big and you would see lag playing.

By these reasons, this close zoom effect from big units must be made with a lose of quality and if you want see them with better quality, you should increase the distance of view as I show in the screenshots.

Other feature added is the reduction from the neccesary amount of resources for unkeep your fleet. The original values were too high for me. Specially for these big units. Now I have reduced it thinking at build a large amount of units.

Here you can watch a video with the Super Laser from the Death Star firing at a tactical battle. Probably it needs be increased at size. The range is probably the maximun in the game. But the point is clearly how it can destroy a ship with one single shot.

About destroy planets. The feature is not finished at 100% and it needs some tweaks. With luck, it will be finished soon.

Now the point can be if the mod will be released with the destroy planets feature or without it at a first version. It depends from how many time it takes. At the end, with the last changes, I need make some changes in the designs and it will take a bit more of time.

About the Super Laser, perhaps the Death Star will not be the most fun unit with this weapon. When you see the SSD Eclipse, you will agree with me.;)

Good news. The Death Star ability destroying planets is fully added and running. This will be the Super Weapon from the Empire but........the Hutts can build the Dark Saber and it can destroy planets.

You can watch a video from my first test with it, final version shows a better message after destroy a planet. The other video shows another good feature. One replacement from a sound. Very simple and easy but fun.

Probably my first long battle playing the mod, I have not tested too much, there was not time for this. Clearly the first version from the mod will be tested by you.

There are some things which they must be improved but by the moment, it looks fun.

Good news. I´m uploading the first version from the mod. It will be a 4gb huge file but all the versions after, they will be smaller patches. I will try to put it at Moddb.

The last additions were a better Death Star model movie at tactical battles, some fixes in several model movies and the addition from the customized scenarios. When I add the download at moddb, check the description text before you install it, if you want know how install the mod. It is not very difficult. Mostly remove your designs folder at ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\.. folder, remove the imgsize.ht in the ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\.. , uncompress the mod in the game folder ..\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Polaris Sector\.. , after uncompress the mod, enter the mod folder and copy the REMEMBER.CFG inside the Polaris_Sector_Alliance into the ..\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector\.. folder. Why do the Level 2 Starships have fewer weapons slots, particularly the large slots? None of the level 2 hulls have as many of the 5 x 5 slots as some of the level 1 hulls.

The level of starships is irrelevant. It is more a way of create units by time era. Other point is how some units were created thinking for one special thing as to be anti-fighter ships.

OK. Interesting. That means the level 1 hulls may be more suitable for some roles than the level 4 hulls. I noticed that it is not possible to deploy the Warp Interdictor until Level Two hulls are researched. That is an example of what you were saying. I also had a level 4 pirate ship destroy a carrier and 350 level 2 fighters. The rest of my ships finally put it down. It was faster than any of my ships or fighters and was depressingly hard to damage, even with my big ships.

Why are there two Superlaser components - one under Weapons and one under Miscellaneous? They have different icons. There is a third supe laser weapon that is documented as being for smaller orbital platforms.

One is the tactical battle weapon and other is the ability for destroy planets. The first can be mounted by other units as the Eclipse or the Mini Death Star station with the empire.

It seems like an impressive mod, just discovered on Google!

Finally trying this mod out and noticed some small errors? The Imperial Scout design has a few small pegs missing on its floors so you cannot place anything on those spots. The fighter designs are set outside the parameters?

Also what is the difference between the Ion guns and the Turbo lasers as they have the same exact stats?
