pbem and game size

I am having problems with pbem - not getting replays. Testing has suggested to me it might be game size. Is there anyone out there playing pbem battles on maps around 100x70 in size and forces with total slot size of 400 or more on purpose built maps successfully getting replays? It would be very useful to know if it is only me struggling with this as I attempt to narrow down the causes.
