I'm loving the idea of returning to Ragnar Anchorage. It did feel like we had unfinished business with the station. That's a good gods damn call! Also, love the image of Columbia. I really hope this isn't the last DLC. If anything can we have DLC that fills the story in between the campaign again?
Ragnar supply deport or daidalos before that.

Hi there folks, this my first time making a post on the BSG: Deadlock forum

I have some concerns regarding a screenshot showing the Guardian Basestar model on your steam page for the Modern Ship Pack, it seems almost identical to a model made for the Fall of Kobol mod for Sins of the Solar Empire with a slightly different texture added to it, here is a link to the post of the model in question https://www.moddb.com/mods/fall-of-kobo ... /#7763657 .
Is this merely a placeholder model until the final one is complete?
I thought something felt off, yet familiar about the Guardian Basestar model. Good catch, Mr. Bilby.

Black Lab has always said it strives for accuracy, but puts gameplay above lore.

Not only that, a lot of the BSG fans see Blood and Chrome as non-canonical due to inconsistences, like the wreck of the Acheron which was shown as a Jupiter class Battlestar being called a "Heavy Cruiser", the overkillstar and the usage of the Valkyrie which is both far to advanced for a first war ship and was a case of CGI artists or studio execs being too lazy, before you say well the could have upgraded it etc, the class would have been phased out before the second war due to being 40 years old like what was happening with the Galactica so we couldn't have seen it being used in The Plan, Razor or in Season 3
Here’s the thing though, whether some fans think Blood & Chrome is non-canon is immaterial. It may present a gratuitously overdesigned version of Galactica festooned with oversized CGI sets that cannot possibly depict how she really appeared at that time, but we can’t just decide it’s not canon. If we were the ones declaring what is and isn’t canon, we’d never have a level playing field for conversations like this. :)

Now I’ll be honest, if the new series being produced by Sam Esmail ends up being a wartime one, and he decides that Blood & Chrome is no longer canon, I’d be fine with that. But there’s still the case of two Valkyrie-type battlestars appearing in the Caprica episode Retribution at the Caprica City Interplanetary Spaceport. Her pre-war existence also provides a perfect explanation as to why she wasn’t slated for retirement at the time of the fall. Not only would she be built to spec without the desperate push to get her into the war, she would also have been designed to use the advanced technology that Galactica deliberately lacked, making her class a perfect candidate to undergo the kind of post war tech upgrades that ultimately doomed the Twelve Colonies.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who spotted that lol

I can understand where you are coming from there regarding Sam Esmail, but this is my personal opinion here so you can take it with a pinch of salt if you want, regarding the screen capture of apparent Valkyries in the Caprica Interplanetary Spaceport, they wouldn't be as cheap to run and maintain as you would think. Mainly because they would have to be able to perform Low atmospheric flight, (we know that Galactica was capable of doing Upper atmospheric flight within a gas giant with what happened within Ragnar Anchorage) and land on a planet (as they seem to be on a pad). The closest example of craft that we had that was capable of that was of course the Space Shuttle and they were hell in terms of NASA budget costs, imagine the maintenance cost and hell with a craft that is 649 metres in length would entail on a military budget. Coupled with the fact that the Valkyrie has weapon pod turrets which are not big enough for a person to be in to control them, which would imply that they have a computer controlled targeting system which is very bad when the Cylons are very adept at hacking to computers... imagine the sight of having your own Battlestar turning it's gun to take out any ship you are escorting...

BUT and I say this lightly but perhaps what we see could be a precursor variant that is used for the framework for the Valkyrie class as a whole, the fandom already thought of this when we first saw the Valkyrie in Season 3, naming it the Asgard class.

As for it being in the main campaign, that's a bit of an issue, a lot of the fandom see the Valkyrie as being a Light or Escort Battlestar and we already have one of those in the game, the Artemis which means loosing a very well thought out homage to the original Battlestar design

(I apologies if I caused any offense with my previous post.)

Valkyrie information

Valkyrie-type Battlestar

The Valkyrie Class Battlestar is a class of battlestar operated by the Colonial Fleet. Somewhat smaller than the Galactica class, she is presumably used as a light strike and reconnaissance ship. First pushed into service during the Cylon War, the Valkyrie class has proven to be quite versatile, with many remaining in active service (presumably with multiple upgrades/refits) up until the Fall of the Twelve Colonies.

Coming from the Cylon War, it is presumed that, at least in their original design configuration, ships of this class lacked the advanced computer technology and networking of more modern battlestars for fear of Cylon infiltration. It is presumed that most, if not all, ships of this class have been heavily upgraded since; several are shown as being shut down by Cylon infiltration of their CNP navigation system during the Fall of the Colonies.

Overview
The Valkyrie type was deployed alongside a Galactica-type battlestar nearly fifty years before the Fall of the Colonies during the First Cylon War. At the time, they appeared to function as a support vessel in battlestar groups, and not as flagships (Blood and Chrome). In the years since, the type has become a forerunner in the Colonial Fleet, apparently outnumbering the Mercury class and remaining Galactica type battlestars. This type of battlestar is among the smallest ships in service in the post-war fleet, carrying fewer Vipers and Raptors than their larger counterparts. Despite this, their crews are not afraid to tackle threats head on, as three of them were seen attempting to engage Cylon basestars over Caprica before fleet communications went down (TRS: "The Plan").

Layout
Main hull
Measuring over 700 meters long, the Valkyrie type was about half the size of a Galactica-type battlestar. Overall, it shares the common battlestar design, consisting of an "alligator head," mid-section with flight pods attached, and aft the propulsion section, housing the main sublight engines. Possibly because of its smaller size, much of its main layout is exposed or semi-exposed on the underside of the ship, the FTL drive being the most prominent (TRS: "The Plan"). Physically, it was far more "jagged" than other battlestar classes, with sharp edges offset by curved lines. The hull was covered with batteries, missile launchers, and numerous hatches, giving it a sharp and streamlined but functional look.

Flight Pods
Forward shot of the Valkyrie, showing the underside, and Viper launch tubes.
Main article: Flight pod
The flight pods on the Valkyrie type serve the same purpose as with its larger counterparts. However, they are not able to carry as many planes, or allow larger vessels to dock inside, as with the Galactica type or Mercury class. Despite being a Cylon War era design, the flight pods do not retract on this type, not even for FTL jumps.

The hangar deck facilities are smaller, and situated between the flight deck and the Viper launch tubes which run parallel to the pods. Having only three tubes per pod, the Valkyrie type has significantly less launching capabilities than its larger counterparts in the fleet. However, this doesn't preclude them from being assertively deployed, and may suggest a more offensively oriented approach to Viper launches as well as rapid deployment and recovery of CAPs. The tubes are also significantly longer than those of other battlestars. There are three separate points where Vipers could be lowered from the hangar into the tubes. It is possible that this allows for a much higher rate of launch. (TRS: "Hero", "The Plan").

Armament

20 small dual mounted turrets.
33 heavy dual turrets capable of firing missiles.
Unknown number of point defense guns.
At least 6 ship-to-ship missiles silos
The Valkyrie type has more weapons per square meter than any other class. Equipped with 20 small turrets, and 33 heavier (though much smaller than on other classes) ones, it has a huge number of guns. Presumably, there are an unknown number of point defense guns that would be located between the armor plating, much like the Mercury class. This class appears to rely more on missile weapons than other classes, with at least the larger turrets being capable of firing small anti-fighter missiles, and with at least 6 silos containing ship to ship missiles.
Small compliment of Viper space superiority fighters.
Size and disposition of the typical Valkyrie type airwing is never stated. However, in "The Plan", Valkyrie has at least 20 Vipers nearby. Yet, this is not evidence that this represents the full airwing.
Small compliment of Raptor multi-role vehicles.

Yeah, as much as I love that our character joined Galactica's crew, I still feel like Daidalos represented the best part of the Operational Commander's career. Not only did we build the first iteration of the Colonial Fleet, we also had to make the hard calls. I just hope we finally get some answers about what happened to Cain and Helena.

Hey OregonUK, good to see a fellow Brit here. :)

Unfortunately, for what I can only assume are balancing issues, the artillery loadout is completely different on the DLC Mercury.

I’ve taken a couple of pictures from the teaser trailer, and highlighted the batteries as best I can. The main thing to note is that whilst I can’t get a clear shot of them, the port and starboard weapons are clearly point defence batteries based on the five distinct outgoing rounds coming from the starboard pod in the first image. There are also two battlestar artillery guns tucked away in the valley on the underside of the alligator head as well that are difficult to see.

- Identifiable Mercury-class Gun Emplacements - (click image to enlarge)
Image Image

Based on other pictures I’ve found around the web, I don’t think the Mercury will have her four fixed heavy cannons, which is a massive shame since those were the ship’s party piece.

A good selection of images from both DLC packs can be found at the links below.

Steam Store - BSG Deadlock: Armistice
Steam Store - BSG Deadlock: Modern Ships Pack
I was thinking about what you are saying about balancing in game the thing is the MK2 Jupiter has got the correct Artillery in the right places and it has the right amount of 24 battlestar artillery look on the in game Blueprint and they have put the artillery in the right place from Close up pics of Galactica.

Now I know what you are going to say but the 50 it had in blood and chrome is not right and overkill the Devs setup is correct to literature and pics on the Jupiter Class before the MK2 it was wrong from what I have read and seen on video and on pics they have put this right with the MK2.

So For the Mercury it has 30 Battlestar artillery and 4 fixed twin battlestar artillery both literature and Pics and watching BSG shows that and all the artillery is along the front and sides of Pegasus or the Mercury Class.

Now balancing for this if the Mercury has 30 Battlestar artillery and 4 fixed battlestar artillery then that is the setup and that is what the Game should have to be correct if the Developers can give the Galactica the right amount in the right places then they can give the Pegasus the right amount because it is what it is.

Also the Pegasus is close to 50% bigger than Galactica be interesting to see if the developers have this right.

One more thing if I can find where the Valkyrie or Odin class is shown in Caprica I will post the pics here to prove that the Odin class was in service before the start of the first cylon war.

Actually, I’m with you on the Blood & Chrome Galactica. I vastly prefer the Jupiter Mk. II layout in Deadlock. I do like the extra flashes of red paint they put on the ship in B&C though. :)

One minor correction though. The Jupiter II alligator head only has six artillery guns, rather than the canon eight, giving the Deadlock version twenty-two battlestar artillery batteries. It’s close enough to illustrate your point though.

I’m honestly disappointed that both the Mercury and Valkyrie use the same gun batteries as the first war ships. The layout of Pegasus in particular could have presented some interesting new abilities, such as variable fire “modern battlestar artillery” that would be capable of firing both capital grade shells and small calibre anti-aircraft rounds depending on the target.

If that would have been too difficult to implement into this game however, Razor (uniquely) depicted Pegasus as having point defence batteries hidden between armour panels on her topside surfaces. Using the movie as a basis would have allowed the devs to fit the existing artillery guns in the canon Mercury-class positions, whilst maintaining the preferred Battlestar weapons combination by adding point defence weapons to the dorsal and ventral surfaces.

Moving the point defence fields of fire and the associated flak fields would also allow the development of new tactics when compared to the Jupiter Mk. II.

P.S.

Here’s the picture I posted of two Valkyrie-type ships in Caprica from March last year.

What episode of caprica is your picture from because I need to watch it now.

That is why in the picture it proves that the valkyrie type was there at the start of the first cylon war and there at the fall.

One more the valkyrie type is it a odin class or asgard class. I say odin but what do you think.

I’m only using episodic canon as reference points, so I assume Odin and Asgard are fan-made designations? Since the picture shows two ships in the same external configuration as Valkyrie herself appeared in Hero and The Plan, I would suggest she’s of the type that fits that criteria. I haven’t included the Razor appearances due to the Rollbar, which suggests a possible subtype based on the concept art.

The episode is called Retribution. They appear during a flyover of an Intersun liner like Colonial One immediately after the recap. It's interesting to note that the flashes of red paint usually found on battlestars has been replaced with white paint on these ships, which is most noticeable on the leading edge of the flight pods. I would surmise that the change is to better reflect the colour scheme of other Caprican military vehicles seen during the prequel series.

Thanks for letting me know about the episode of caprica

I have now found a page in a official publication that the Devs have it so wrong on the Valkyrie.

This makes me think that do the people that make these games not do basic Research or do they just dream all day and then go lets go with that its totally wrong but the people that buy it well they are idiots so will not know that we just did what we felt like doing.

Because you could give all the ships in the game the correct layouts and right amount of guns just adjust the firepower of the ships to balance it I think there is a element that the Devs or game makers do not care in truth.

This Quote from Devs Diary on steam is a good one.

We eventually settled on releasing these modern ships as a single ship pack, with a focus on skirmish and multiplayer. In these non-narrative modes, the setting and timing aren’t beholden to the continuity timeline,

But how can the iconic Valkyrie Not be in the main Campaign from the start like it should be??.

Here is the Best Battlestar Galactica read up on the Valkyrie https://www.this-is-cool.co.uk/battlest ... ards-book/

Looks like I'm going to be wrong about this when Armistice is released, because the Deadlock Facebook page has been posting screenshots taken by TeacherGalante using the photo mode, and Galactica is pictured with eight artillery batteries on her alligator head. I just hope her fleet points haven't gone up, because I was fielding five combat ships at 8,000 points prior to sending ships to the Ghost Fleet, and I won't be able to put BSG-75 back together if she's more than 2,700. lol

I don't think that's the case at all. If it were, we wouldn't have the Jupiter Mk. II reflecting the Columbia's armour specs. Hell, we may not have a Jupiter II at all. I'm absolutely certain the change in Mercury-class weapons emplacements has been deemed necessary for gameplay reasons. It's just a shame the devs only talk on the discord channel, because there are a lot of players on the forums who'd give them a different perspective on issues when compared to the more vociferous types who regularly have their ear.

Well if that picture is right then the extra battlestar artillery each side is in the right place and the layout is now Correct to the layout of the reboot show.

The Galactica, Jupiter had 8 battlestar artillery top 100% correct and the placing is also right so the Devs have this spot on.

The 8 battlestar artillery on the bottom are 100% correct again by the devs.

The 4 battlestar artillery on the front of the alligator head is 100% correct again.

The 2 Battlestar artillery each side in what I class as the alligator head flanks is 100% correct again now if the Devs have made this change then the layout has been made 100% correct by the devs so I take my hat off to them for this correction.

Now for the Mercury I would have though that putting the turrets in the right place and configuration would have been more easy to have modded on a computer now just here me out on this.

From the top mercury head 6 Battlestar artillery each side of the Alligator head in the slots then 3 battlestar artillery central each side in the landing pods. Then 2 Battlestar artillery facing forward bottom each landing pod area and the 2 Battlestar artillery facing backwards on top landing pod landing area.

Then the 4 Front battlestar artillery on the alligator head I think this is the same configuration as the Jupiter but last but not least 8 round holes in the hull of the Mercury 4 fixed dual battlestar artillery.

Now I would have thought the only problem that people might not like about this is that they would not be able to see clear the artillery cannon movements but if that is how the layout is then that is how the layout should be its just cannon.

So could it be that the devs just do not have all the staff they need to work on such projects to do it correct this is not there fault but the software houses fault.

You can Referance my Mercury Pics at the start of the thread for layout

From Wednesday’s stream with SgtZdog and Sir Wagglepuss III, we now have a few details confirmed.

First, the Valkyrie has six heavy guns topside, two on the ventral surface and eight point defence cannons per broadside arc. The Mercury has ten forward firing battlestar artillery, four topside, eight beneath the flight pods and two covering the rear arc, with twelve PDC’s covering each broadside.

The Mercury is also a Class 5 sized vessel, a size class that’s new to the Daybreak update. According to Zdog and Wagglepuss, most of the Cylon basestars have been moved up from class 4 as well.

For anyone who hasn’t seen the stream, it can be found at the link below.

I just want to say that in the new dlc the ships have been done very well and the Jupiter Mk2 has the right battlestar artillery in the right locations it now has the extra one each side of the gator head bringing battlestar Artillery to 24 which is correct with all pictures schematics and TV show also.

Now to the Mercury class the model is superb but the guns and the fact there is not enough of them to be correct and they are not in the right locations makes this a bad ship.

You have to be above a target to get the most out of the broadsides battlestar artillery that's because they are in the wrong place if the had been put in the right place like in the pictures I am adding showing the way things should look on the broadsides.

This would let you be above or below a target because the artillery on the broad sides would work correct because the side battlestar artillery as it is just so rubbish.

Watch the BSG episode where both the Pegasus and Galactica destroy the resurrection hub both battlestars are below the basestars targets and using there top battlestar artillery for Galactica and Pegasus is using her broadsides artillery to take them out no head on attack from Pegasus.

So what a Frack up by the Devs only got 8 out of all battlestars artillery they placed in the correct place the rest are in the wrong place or are not in a twin 2 artillery combination just 1 single turret.

Would I recommend the use of the Mercury in game play no its limited and rubbish in the Devs wrong configuration also the flack is rubbish the Jupiter and the MK2, Artemis have better flack use them in Anabasis big tip above and below attack and flack that will do its job which I point out below.

When you get hit by a torpedo barrage from the enemy you will find that some of the torpedo's get through the flack and hit the Mercury but the same VS the Jupiter ,MK2, Artemis nothing gets through which is right.

Now I do not know for sure on this one I am going to record some in game footage and then use so editing software I have but the Mercury point defence turrets have a lower rate of fire than the Jupiter ,MK2, Minerva, but I think its on a par with the Artemis, defender, Heracles but will not know for sure until I do my break down on this.

Picture model below on correct broadside configuration for battlestar artillery.

Now for the Valkyrie well the model is good but its missing some heavy turrets and a Viper squadron for the other landing bay how could the Devs Frack that one up but they have 2 landing bays 2 viper squadrons they have got the heavy rocket right one and the armour and strength is about right.

But it would have been so much better if the devs had put all the heavy turrets on the ones they have at in the right places but there is some missing.

I have detailed below in the picture the locations of the heavy turrets location and the point defence turrets the missing turrets and the missile launcher locations.

The red rings show point defence turrets locations and the devs have done a excellent job on that. The green rings show all locations of heavy turrets locations the yellow rings show the missing heavy turrets locations and the purple rings show the location of missile launchers.

Can I not recommend from a colonial point of view the modern ships pack no there is just so meany wrongs that the devs need to put right and its not like the information on all the things I have brought up is not out there and available for free yes free Devs to do the ships and the games justice and do it right like the correction you made to the Jupiter MK2 which I find its 100% perfect now you have added the one Artillery turret each side perfect.

When I do my review of the modern ships on steam and I point out all the above its not going to be a glowing review at all. Is this because the devs are not going to do any more dlc for Bsg deadlock or updates kind of washing there hands of the game because there is lots more dlc story's that could be told I am sure.

In relation to your above question I did not understand that with the modern ships pack you did not get a blueprint option to look at the ships and if you look at the MK2 blueprint you will notice the devs did not update it because its got the extra 1 battlestar artillery each side missing.

But this could have been because the Devs just decided to cut corners that is why the layout for the Mercury is wrong a battlestar is meant to be imposing from its broadside well the Mercury is not so its not a true Battlestar also the Valkyrie having heavy weapons missing above and below also a viper squadron.

When you look at all the different games on the site that they do I would think that if they had kept going with deadlock it would last out all the other games they do and make them more money than all of them from a iconic point of view.

The only game I play is deadlock none of the others I have friends that have the other games they have played but when push comes to crunch they like me admit that the other games are rubbish.

They always come back to deadlock trust me if the devs had stayed the course Deadlock would have out lasted and easily made more money than all there other games put together if deadlock is and has not already done this which would not surprise me at all.

As they say never look a gift horse in the mouth and never stop working on a project that is a winner and brings in the money.

I think if the new dlc was corrected and the blueprints made available and put right the battlestar put in the right configuration like what the devs have done with the Jupiter MK2 the 1 battlestar artillery each side puts it in the shows correct configuration.

I need to do a update on the Valkyrie I was sent a message by a friend of mine to look in to something the bottom of the Valkyrie and its layout.

After looking at pictures and models we came to this in the yellow rings they are not heavy turrets at all but are part of the look of the ship but we did find that at the front of the ship on the underside in the red ring there is 2 heavy turrets.

So from re researching the Bottom of the Valkyrie so we lost 2 heavy turrets but 2 heavy turrets was found and gained so sorry for this small mistake that has now been put right please look at picture below for better understanding on layout change.

I was asked How do I know that there is 3 battlestar Artillery on the Flight pods Landing Bay pods on the Mercury Class or Pegasus that point out and can fire both up and down well the picture below shows how I know.

This also shows why I think the Deadlock Mercury needs putting in the correct configuration battlestar are supposed to have imposing firepower on the broadsides well in the Devs configuration it has nothing and is rubbish its head on sides get bashed in.

in the Right configuration it would be the all-rounder that the Mercury is the ability to take on front both sides up and down and rear guard.

I was asked if the ship was in the correct configuration with the artillery in the right places and the right amounts two twin Battlestar artillery beside each other ect where would I put the 12 Point defence turrets each side I have added a picture showing where.

Yellow Marks are showing where I would think they should be on the Mercury Class in Deadlock with the artillery shown on the Model with the correct configuration and the green marks show if the Yellow places could not work where they could go on the flat leading edge of the armour.

In my opinion the Yellow marks Point defence locations Is spot on.
