Ship Classes

Post by Ro0 » Tue Aug 08, 2017 9:16 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering what Ship Classes are currently in game?

The iconic Galactica or Jupiler Class was if i'm not mistaken the first of the Battlestars.
And went through many design changes as time goes by.

So what can we or might we expect in possible future expansions if there are any planned?

For the colonials, the Vipers we know for sure we have the following:

- The MkI viper (TOS style)
- The MkII viper
also a raptor probably the version from blood and chrome or earlier.

For ships we know for sure we have the following:

- The Manticore class
- The Jupiter class battlestar
- The Ranger class cruiser
- The Adamant class
- The Artemis class battlestar (TOS Galactica but smaller)
- The Minotaur class

There are with no doubt more ships than this, this was only what I saw in the stream.

I'm not sure on all of the cylons ships yet. To keep up to date on ships I would suggest checking out spacedocks channel on youtube as every tuesday he releases the general specifications of the new ships. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... H2LYNKCnAp

For future content (I so hope ) I would imagine ships from the blood and chrome ghost fleet would be a good candidate as that takes place on the 10th year of the cylon war.https://www.artstation.com/artwork/4yr5W I would love to see more battle scenes around the colonies (like nebulas etc)

There is a good veriaty of ship and strikecraft classes for both factions, im not sure if i can talk about them in detail because of the nda but i dont think you'll be disappointed. Of course i'd like there to be more, but then im just greedy, there is a ship to fit most roles and the amount in game allow for a good amount of tactics and gameplay there are streams and lets plays which show most if not all ship classes currently in game if you watch those you should have a good idea of the units in game and how they play

From what i´ve seen so far on youtube, battlestars appear to be the AI focus targets. Especially for the campaign, this seems to be some kind of a letdown. Battlestars are the iconic ships, those which many players will want to add to their fleets during campaign playthrough. But if they end up as focus fire targets for very high costs and the inability to survive the AI behaviour, players might become frustrated pretty quickly. From what you can see on youtube, at least the Artemis already has a cost in points, which makes her rather difficult to place in fleets without ending up on a points drawback. I really hope, they fix and tweak the battlestars until release. If 2 Adamants can do the same as an Artemis for even less costs of ressources and points, i doubt the value of the battlestars...

Did you watch EE's gameplay? because he used the battlestar wrong. He put the battlestar in the middle of the fight and ended up with missile volleys destroying him if however, he put the ship broadside and used the flak (like in the show) the ship would have survived. It makes sense for the AI to target the battlestar with missiles, if not it there wouldn't be any point for flak.

The point is, that the enemy jumped in an immediatly had a firing solution on the battlestar, while the player just had dradis contact. The missles were on their way, even before the player had a chance to react properly... So either the battlestar requires the ability to withstand such a barrage, or the AI needs to be bound to the same limits as the player...

Back to ship classes, Shanewallis123 posted this on another forum, but it jibes pretty well with what I've gleaned from all the vids:

Fighters
Viper mk 1 [0] - The original Space Superiority Fighter
Viper mk 2 [60] - Modern Space Superiority Fighter
Raptor - Electronic Countermeasure Utility
Sweeper - Defensive Tactical Craft

Ships
Battlestar Jupiter [1,900] - Heavy Battlestar
1 Ammo Slots
2 Squadrons Slots
Designed by Sinon Quade as a direct Response to the rise in Cylon aggression, the Jupiter class is the pinnacle of Colonial Battlestar design. A fine balance of size, armour and artillery make it the most powerful warship currently flying in the colonial fleet. production of the jupiter class is limited by the articles of colonization with only one to be built for each of the twelve colonies

Artermis [1,400] - Light Battlestar
1 Ammo Slots
2 Squadrons Slots
The Artemis class battlestar is the most commonly deployed command ship by the colonial fleet. Moderate speed, high armour ratings and aggressive turret battery placements make this battlestar a dominating force on the battlefield

Atlas [1,150] -

Ranger [1,100] - Long Distance Missile Cruiser
2 Ammo Slots
Originally a picon specialist design, the ranger class cruiser has more recently become popular throughout the twelve colonies. Its combination of long range dominance and skirmish range turret configuration makes it a highly effective all rounder in any strike group

Minotaur [900] - Heavy Warship
The Minotaur Warship is a testament to the pragmatic nature of the Aerlian people; you build a ship, give it plenty of armour, and fit every other spare inch with guns. It is a cost effectie fixture to our fleet groups looking to bulk up their firepower

Adamant [750] -

Manticore - [450]
crew - 40

So perhaps the progression is Manticore, corvette; Adamant, frigate; Minotaur, destroyer; Ranger, light cruiser; Atlas, heavy cruiser; Artemis, battlestar; and Jupiter, heavy battlestar.

Yep copied them straight from the first gameplay reveal video

its not a full or comprehensive description list, but it was all i had to work with at the time

Hello thank you for taking time out to review my inquiry. I would like to share these serious concept ship designs that are cannon and would complement BSG Deadlock.

The first is the Gunstar class Cygnus
cygnus_class_gunstar.png
cygnus_class_gunstar.png (154.81 KiB) Viewed 10027 times
The Colonial Gun Star is the pinnacle of combat engineering design. When Colonial engineers started drawing up the blue prints for this military vessel the goal was simple. Develop a ship able to bring the fight literally to the enemy foot steps and knock on the door. After several design developments Cygus Ship Yard (CSY) created a marvel master piece meeting Colonial Military Fleet exact specifications. Every aspect of war was used and incorporated into the Gun Star making it a multi-purpose/role ship. Its redesigned weapons system gives this ship its muscle making it superior in firepower. Enabling this warship to handle various missions its overall design makes this ship fast and highly maneuverable yet long-endurance in combat.

Primary mission of the Cygnus Class Gun Star is as follows intended to escort or give direct support of larger military vessels in the fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them. It's secondary mission to perform as a Command Control and Communications platform.

Scale: L: 695m W: 280m H: 93m
Tonnage: Variable
Speed: Variable

Power: Primary tylium energizers and advanced fusion reactors and generators. 2 reactors, 1 backup reactor, Auxillary Battery. Tylium fueled equipped and separate tanks for Solium fuel. FTL capable its jump range differs, but max is 80 before needing to refuel.

Crew Compliment:

Standard Crew: 800
Fleet Officer: 64
Marine Officer: 24
Fleet Enlisted: 600
Marine Enlisted: 112

Weapons:

-KEW: Turrets 6 Dorsal center-line, 4 Forward ventral, 4 Port flight pod and 4 Starboard flight pod.
-Rail Guns: 20 total (10 on the port and starboard side) Multi-purpose.
-Flak Cannons: 5 Port and 5 Starboard.
-Missiles: 12 Dorsal hatches, 6 Tubes each (Nuclear Warheads).
-Conventional Missiles: Ship to Ship. Housed in the mid-section of the ship where
-4 Large Cannons on the bow of the ship.

Passenger Capacity: 50

Cargo Capacity: 65000m

Shipboard Consumables: 12 to 24, 36 months fuel, food, ammo, air depending on mission criteria.

Maneuvering engine types: FTL Equipped, 4 sub-light engines, 32 RCS units

Hull Design type: Cygnus Class

Small Ship Compliment:
-24 Raptors
-6 Shuttles

The hangar bay can house a few extras ship as backs or storage for visiting ships on long distance missions. Also has 12 maintenance bay for repairs to small ships only.

Damage Control System: automated firefighting capability, managed by the Boroton Mist / Foam / Liquid control center. DCS has three stations the main is located in engineering, Secondary located in CIC and Auxiliary is forward of the landing control station. All ships in the Fleet have Damage Control Teams (DCT). These teams are part of the engineering department and are charged with the safety of the ship and are tasked with fire and rescue.

The second is the Assaultstar class Vanguard
Assaultstar_Vanguard_class.png
Assaultstar_Vanguard_class.png (42.42 KiB) Viewed 10027 times
Not all of the vessels of the Colonial Fleet are big bruising battlestars. In fact, there are a number of smaller vessels that make up the 150+ vessels of the Big Blue Machine. One of these important ships is the assaultstar. Originally designed as a light, maneuverable vessel to screen the more valuable battlestars from damage, the assaultstars also proved themselves in more prosaic duties like smuggling interdiction, search-and-rescue, and marine reconnaissance and assault support.

Most battlestar groups have 2-3 assaultstars attached to them, coupled with 2-3 of the smaller gunstars, and a tender. Assaultstars are also grouped in MRG (Marine Reconnaissance Groups) that are tasked with supplying marines to areas of operations including emergency response, disaster relief, and combat action.

The assaultstar class is an older model, the original models as old as thirty years in service, but they are nearly all still active as of the attacks. They carry up to a battalion of Colonial Marines for up to three months, which can be deployed using specialized Marine Landing Shuttles (uparmored standard shuttles.) The MLS can carry 25 marines and either a tank or two APCs or CAWS, or 50 marines in a drop.

Assaultstar class

Life Points: 16 Armor: 4W, 4S Initiative: d6+d8 Speed: 6 [SL/JC]

SKILLS: Heavy Weapons d4, Mechanical Engineering d4, Perception d4, Pilot d4

TRAITS:

ARMAMENT: Heavy Skirmish Range Point Defense System (d12W Planetary-scale ), 7 Short DRADIS-Range Medium Railguns (d10W Spacecraft-scale), 12 Short DRADIS-Range Medium Missile Systems (d12W Spacecraft-Scale) *Can be fired from Railguns.

AUXILIARY VEHICLES: 10 Raptors, 6 Vipers, 10 Marine Landing Shuttles, can carry 10 tanks, 20 APC or CAWS, or a combination for landing with the MLS.

HISTORY:
Demosthenes is part of BSG-55 (Pleiades), but is often released to detached duty for search & rescue and smuggling interdiction missions. “Old D” was constructed in 35AC, and is one of the older vessels in her class. She has a reputation for being “lucky.”

you say those are Canon.. but i've only seen them in fan art. so you need to provide provenance as to their canonical nature.

They're not. The types are a big tip-off: calling everything a somethingorotherstar is a peculiar obsession of people who make up fan designs. There's actually a wiki available with what information is available on every ship that actually appears: https://en.battlestarwikiclone.org/wiki/Main_Page

another clue that something is a fan design instead of an official one is the detail level.. actual listed sizes, crew numbers, weapon specifications, and so on for background ships are either rare or unavailable for the stuff that is offical. so if you see one that has history, size, crew, and so on odds are you are looking at a fan version of something.

heck, just having a name is rare.. most of the ships seen in the main show, razor flashbacks, and B&C go by descriptors like "wishbone ship", or "wedge ship" or other such names derived from what they look like. usually because we only see them for a few seconds at a time and don't get a good look at them.

(this is one of the reasons i really wish battlestarwiki.org was still around..)

and some very interesting ones too.. not sure what the heck many are supposed to do (besides 'look cool in fleet shots') but interesting.
the demeter comes across, to me, like it was a merchant ship originally, that got uparmed during the war. like a Q-ship crossed with Atlantic Conveyor. big open area in the center where it looks like cargo should go, the control systems in badly protected areas and not behind armor, and the weapons and other military gear seemingly added in as an after thought.

the "alert" looks like another quick refit.. that flight pod looks so out of place on it, off balance and lacking any apparent way to carry and launch small craft. my guess is it might be their version of an inflight refueling plane? fighters and raptors can fly in to the landing strip area, get topped up and rearmed by spacesuited crew, then fly out, protected by point defense and armor during it.

The Hornet i'd guess is their version of a seaplane tender.. a small warship that carries and supports recon planes to give a fleet better intelligence gathering options.

I agree with you about the hornet. It could do without having a flight pod, but yeah the Hornet is my fav in that webpage. But going back to what you have said, they all sort of fit the bill of all being pre colonial fleet. The colonial fleet ships are more about the battlestars and the support craft. With B&C being set 10 years into the war it makes perfect sense that these could refitted to serve the military role (if not have been before)
