Trajan is going to force the Iron Gates!
Since the Germans were less than stellar, the Dacians have decided to have a go at the Romans.
Substandard pictures again. (What were you expecting, Trajan's Column?)
Romans:
1 FC, 3 TCs
3x6 Legionaires, HF, Armored, Superior, Impact Foot, Skilled Swordsmen
1x6 Legionaires, HF, Armored, Average, Impact Foot, swordsmen
2x4 Legionaires, HF, Armored, Superior, Impact Foot, Skilled Swordsmen
2x6 Auxiliaries, HF, Armored, Average, Light Spear, Swordsmen
2x4 Alae, Cavalry, Armored, Average, Light Spear, Swordsmen
1x4 Numidians, LH, unarmored, average, Javelins, Light Spear, Swordsmen
1x4 Equites Sagittarii, LH, Unarmored, Superior, Bow
Dacians:
Lots of Falxmen, Some warriors, missile armed skirmishers, lots of bowmen, Dacian cavalry, Sarmatian allies, and Artillery!!
Roman line. Cavalry massed on the right.
Dacian Line.
The Centers close.
Roman light horse, having uncovered Dacians in the woods, are doing the delay thing, while the Roman heavy cavalry waits in support.
Dacian Right wing: Dacian Noble cavalry has a target rich environment.
The Dacian Right wing cavalry have charged the Roman flank legionaries, were fragged, and broke off. The rest of the Dacian line has closed to fight.
Roman auxiliaries stand against the Dacians warriors.
Romans about to contact the Dacian center.
Legionaires come up to support the Auxiliaries.
The Dacian Left presses the Roman light horse.
The Roman Heavy horse charges.
It was a miserable failure--both units ended up breaking.
Things are going better in the Center for the Romans. The artillery was overrun, and a unit of falxmen is about to break.
The supporting archers ended up fighting superior legionaires.
Dacian skirmishers have gotten in the way of the other falx unit, and the auxiliaries like it just fine.
The skirmishers eventually figured it out and got out of the way, and the Dacian falxmen chopped the auxiliaries into little flinders.
The Numidians are still in the game, skirmishing.
The Dacian second line is smashed by the Superior legionaires.
End game: The Dacian Center and Right have collapsed, it's only a matter of time until the Romans are in the Dacian Camp.
The Dacian plan was to disrupt the Romans with missle fire and follow up with the falxmen. It didn't work.
The Romans shrugged off the missile fire, and (mostly) dealt with the falxmen and the rest of the Dacian foot.
The Roman cavalry was a severe disappointment. Not too sure what to do about that.
