New ZOC Medieval rules; will FOG Ancients be updated?
New ZOC Medieval rules; will FOG Ancients be updated?
RBS or others,
the new patch in FOG Medieval says that for ZOCs and Permitted Charges:
A unit that is in the primary ZOC of one or more enemy units could already charge any of those within a 45 degree arc of the unit’s front. It can now also charge an enemy unit in the square directly to its front if it is in that unit's secondary ZOC. This is intended to remove the deliberate or inadvertent contact-delaying effect of each unit in a line of units turning to face diagonally.
Is this being applied to Ancients? if not, please share the reasons.
Thanks.

Re: New ZOC Medieval rules; will FOG Ancients be updated?
On the 23 I got patch notes update for Medieval bit nothing for Ancients. That's why I asked.
Re: New ZOC Medieval rules; will FOG Ancients be updated?
As Manickennel's post says :
I did. It works. You can download the Slitherine version here, or if Steam is more your thing, then you will find the game on the openbeta branch (no password required).
PS : You may not be aware that atm this is a (optional, downloadable) beta for FoG2:Ancients, not an (automatic) update. The latest update dates back to March 2021 while this beta has been available since August.

Well that may confuse things more for competitive play if one has this patch downloaded and another does not, I would think. I don't intend to download anything that isn't "official" yet. Makes sense to me that a gameplay change so fundamental would be applied to all FOG versions concurrently.

You can't play people in MP with a different patch, so not a problem.nyczar wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 1:44 am Well that may confuse things more for competitive play if one has this patch downloaded and another does not, I would think. It’s not a beta patch, but a full install that runs parallel to your main build so you can test and provide feedback on the changes, before it becomes an official patch.nyczar wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 1:44 am Well that may confuse things more for competitive play if one has this patch downloaded and another does not, I would think. I would like to adopt it for competitive ancients now if it fixes the diagonal deployment exploit.

Re: New ZOC Medieval rules; will FOG Ancients be updated?
The plan is to release the update after the forthcoming FOG2DL and World Team Championships have ended, to avoid disrupting any of the games. (i.e. After 10th January and before 1st February)

Thanks RBS for the definitive word.
