Yeah. There's also some 100 years war specific stuff and lot of units and factions from British Isles so unless these lists also include stuff that is not planned for the next DLC I'd imagine it will cover the entire FoG2 area rather than a more limited geographic region.

French seem to be pretty much the only faction with no unique troops listed :D

a few other time specific ones:

Yorkist: founded 1385
Tudor: founded 1485
Lancastrian: founded 1267
these three are probably for the war of the roses, between 1455 and 1487

Florentine
Milanese
Venetian
probably in reference to the Italian wars in the 15th and 16th centuries?

Catalan Company: active in the 14th century

Teutonic Order: founded 1192

Latin Empire: founded 1204

It looks like at least some part of the future update will be campaigns around the interactions between the Byzantines, Crusaders and Italian city states, and the impact of the Catalan Company, and also some War of the Roses stuff, which is all great war history! very exciting.

Italian City States had pretty important role during crusades as well and the game will supposedly end around 1500 AD.

Hmmm...

Crusader Kings is a registered trademark.
Kingdom of Heaven - Crusaders is registered trademark.
Heavenly Crusaders is a registered trademark.
Heavenly Kingdoms is not a registered trademark.

The next DLC will be called: "Crusader Legacy - Heavenly Kingdoms".

right, I'm not familiar enough with the history, but when did all of those cities become independent city states that would be represented as such in game, and not parts of Lombardy or Charlemagne's domain or whatever?

and I guess the key is 'around' and not 'exactly' 1500. Given that it includes Tudors (1485 until 1603), perhaps we will get the Italian Wars (1494 to 1559)? Maybe that limit is a bit flexible?

I hate to rain on your investigative parade, but the order in which strings were added is not necessarily the order in which they will appear in the game. Plans change.

All you can say from what you have found is that we do at some point intend to include the High and Late Medieval periods. But you knew that already.

Lombard Italy was conquered by Normans near the end of WatG and Charlemagne's domain had shattered even earlier.

The wikipedia article about the Italian city-states is pretty brief but gives a decent overview of the region: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_city-states
Also in medieval Europe being part of a larger kingdom or empires such as the Holy Roman Empire could still mean some powerful dutchies/kingdoms were practically autonomous at times.

Tomorrow it will have been a year since the release of previous DLC so even wild speculation over unused strings floats my boat by now :)

ok makes sense, from the link it does say "In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, Milan, Venice, and Florence were able to conquer other city-states, creating regional states." which gives me some hope that, as regional states that might be independent factions in game, the found strings may be referring to fourteenth and fifteenth century Milan, Venice and Florence, but of course it's all guesswork.

IIRC 'Swifter Than Eagles' was recently seen in a screenshot of a likely suspect ( :) ) so Biblical may be next. I'd prefer Mediaeval but such is life. I would also guess that DLCs will be the same as the FoG Tabletop/FoG I releases in terms of content. Happy to be proved wrong.

"Also knows as "Swarm of Beagles" or "Swifter than Beagles""

also would prefer to see medieval, but we're probably not in a position to put in requests lol.

Tbh 'Swifter Than Eagles' would be like a childhood's dream come true for me. (Since I saw Gaynor Chapman's illustrations for Piggott's 'The Dawn of Civilization', to be precise.)

I must admit I would also like to play Early Sumerian, Early Egyptian, Minoan or Mycenaean.

So many nice periods :-)

Yes, I agree. The (already achieved, and the further planned) scope of the game is fantastic. It's an all time classic for all times, so to say.

I agree: that would be a great addition. Medieval period is in my opinion already more exploited (overexploited?) so the archaic age would stand out more and fit in well (only problem is lack of reliable information and historical sources). But of course medieval would be ok too.

Totally agree: it's addictive. I'm so happy that I came across it (through FoG: Empires, which I haven't even had time to play now because of FoG2). I love the slow and tense feeling of build-up and positioning before the armies clash: the waiting game. And then the intensity when they suddenly clash and control is a little lost, and when it all becomes tactical and situations change the whole time. All this in perfect combination with the turn-based system instead of real-time that would just be too stressful and chaotic for my taste. Also love that units make their own decisions, such as falling back, pursuing. And when a mounted flank charge (if my own!) cuts through an enemy line like a hot knife through butter. So great game: thanks! Will purchase future DLCs even if only to support the developers.
Arranging the The Year of Many Emperors (TYME), Dividing the Spoils (DiSp), and The West is No More (TWiNM) tournaments for Field of Glory II!

As FoG2 rules work so well, it appears that many of us eagerly await their being applied to as many periods as possible :-)
