Alternative to Light_Javelins?

Post by kronenblatt »

Is there another Light Javelinmen unit that would really well suit the Persian/Median lands of the Hellenistic era, other than Light_Javelins? Been searching but cannot find.

Not really at the moment. Your best hope is that RBS might add the TT Mod Eastern_Light_Javelins in a future update.

If you were willing to have a custom Squads.csv file it would be quite easy to make an Eastern light javelinman unit out of the Takabara unit.

All you would need to do is copy the Light_Javelins line and paste it at the bottom of the Squads.csv spreadsheet. Change the name in the first column to Takabara_LF, change the name in the AssetFileName column (Column S) to Takabara. change the ID in the second column to 999.

The name to go in the ArmyList.txt file would be Takabara_LF

When you create a new "campaign" folder, the game should automatically create a TEXT1.txt file. (Note that this is a Unicode file, not a normal .txt file. Normal .txt files won't work).

Then put

IDS_UNITNAME999, "Light Javelinmen",
IDS_UNITINFO999, "Eastern light javelin skirmishers",

in that.

Et voila.

The only issue is that the movement sounds will be a bit louder than they normally are for light infantry, but fixing that would be a more complicated process.

Or he could add them himself for his mod.

It would entail adding the line from TT Mod to his Squads file, the name to text1, and the model and textures to his "campaign". He can see how to do that by looking at TT Mod.

Richard's first suggestion would work very nicely. As you can edit the ArmyList files, I reckon you could probably manage it. The only problem for you might be opening and editing the Squads.csv file, you would need decent program, such as Excel.
