Hello, I’ll be without Fog access for about a week, so if some kind player could respond on Epirus behalf it would be great.

The results of the Lotto are as follows:

"To put movement sequence as simply as possible, there will be 2 pools of players, those that chose their last move and those that did not. Those that did not choose in the last movement sequence will be in the pool that can choose in the next movement sequence."

The Italian city lotto is used for this. Thursday 's lotto for 19 July will be used for 271 BC:

1. Epirus – Firenze - will respond - 2,3,47,76,34
2. Rome – Roma - will respond - 73,47,41,90,10
3. Macedon – Milano - will be active - 58,6,56,71,15
4. Gauls – Napoli - will respond - 27,60,43,49,15
5. Carthage – Palermo - will be active - 77,75,14,38,81
6. Seleucids – Genova - will be active - 4,40,32,1,77
7. Ptolemaic – Torino - will be active - 6,69,18,16,26
8. Antigonus – Venezia - will respond - 16,56,39,88,89

The order of active movers will be based on the lowest number received on a ball. The responders will be in order of the highest number received on a ball, with highest number responding to lowest number. If there is a tie, the next lowest/highest ball will be used.

Seleucids have the low number and will invade the Arab lands. Guido, you have the honour of defending as you have the high number. Please set up a medium battle, choosing terrain.

Macedon has the next choice, winning a tie break with Ptolemaics. Ian, we await your decision.

Tom, You are to defend Thrace against Macedon. Ian, what size battle should Tom set up? Tom, you then choose terrain.

The time has come to invade Nabataea, now that their archers have been nerfed. (Sorry, I mean correctly rebalanced).

Large battle please.

TGM, you must take up the cause of the Nabateans when you return. Large battle in which you set up terrain.

Carthage has the next choice. Steve, please decide your action and size of battle. Danny, you will defend and choose terrain.

The Ptolemaic army defeated the Nabataeans 35% to 65% routed.

This battle did not feel in any way "easy", as can be seen from the heavy losses suffered by the Ptolemaics, and there is no doubt in my mind that without the archer nerf it would have been a massacre of the Ptolemaics.

It seems more plausible (to me at least) that the Ptolemaic army should have the advantage in a pitched battle vs the Nabataeans, rather than the reverse.

And TGM could have hidden amongst the dunes, which I could not really have done anything about, but chose to make a fight of it.

It was because massed archers were previously OP that I left the invasion of Nabataea until now. (In a previous campaign, Nabataea held the eastern Mediterranean in vassalage)

ianiow (Macedonian) defeated 76mm (Thracians) 17 vs 44

Extremely tough battle. First my army marched the entire length of the field to the enemy baseline being swarmed and surrounded by innumerable thracian skirmishers, both LH and LF. Next they had to scale a steep 200 ft heavily defended cliff face/knoll. Once over that they had to assault a large impenetrable forest crawling with enemy MF. To say my units were looking threadbare at the end (2 turns left) is an understatement! For someone that dislikes playing Thracians Tom put up a really good fight.

Thanks for the reports. I have been gone for a week so just started playing again. Steve, did Carthage choose its move? Danny was to respond.

Sorry Steve, but Campania now belongs to Rome and Guido is otherwise occupied defending the Arabs ( and winning I may say) against Seleucids. You may attack any minor power that is not a client state or you may attack the Gauls or any of their minor powers. For example, you may invade Apulia or Sparta which are minor powers. You may also attack Iberia which is a client state of the Gauls. Danny will defend in any case. If you attack Iberia, Danny has the option to defend his client state with the Gauls. Independent minor powers are shown on the map with a gold ring. Client states are shown with their major power's color.

Please designate size of battle. Danny will choose terrain.

Sorry about that!

I will try a medium-sized attack on Sparta, in that case.

The Seleucids were roundly beaten by the Arabs, ably led by Guido, 66-49. Having lost their wits, the Seleucid elite cavalry decided to charge the Arab camels only to be shot up and then routed, while the Seleucid infantry became embroiled in a swamp.

Kudos to Guido for a well played game!

Mac

Steve and Danny, are you still playing?

The battle has not started. I can forego my attack this turn, as I imagine I'm long past the due date.

Steve,

No worries. I have been slow myself. I will put together the results for 271 B.C. assuming no battle took place for Carthage.

Natural Disasters and Other Uncontrollable Events as declared by Zeus, ruler of the Olympians.

Twice each turn or once a year, there will be a chance of incurring a natural disaster or having a restless populace. Each Major Power will be assigned an Italian city lottery, as follows:

1. Epirus – Firenze
2. Rome – Roma
3. Macedon – Milano
4. Gauls – Napoli
5. Carthage – Palermo
6. Seleucids – Genova
7. Ptolemaic – Torino
8. Antigonus – Venezia

Each lottery has five balls. The numbers on each ball will determine a result, a calamity or no harm.

1-20 - No harm
21-30 - Famine – costing 200T
31-40 - Earthquake – costing 100T
41-45 - Volcano Eruption – costing 100T
46-50 - Restless underclass – costing 100T
51-60 - Pirates or bandits disrupting trade – costing 100T
Over 60 - No harm
There could be multiple events causing harm each year. If there are 2 or more natural events of the same type, only the power with the highest number in the category will be inflicted. Restless underclass will count in each case.

We will use the Lotto from today, 2 October to determine the result for this year, 271 B.C
