Rome Attacks Campania.

No quarter will be given until this southern troublesome neighbour will be subjugated!

Guido, what size battle? Nijis will reply, defending the honour of Campania.

TGM, it is now your decision.

Tom is in the response group, while you are in the active group. Tom was active last turn. So it is your choice.

Well in that case we'll liberate the Aetolian League from the Tyrant of Macedon.

Ian,

This requires you to defend your client state. You may do so as Macedon or Aetolian League. TGM, what size battle?

Danny, The Gauls have the next choice. Please choose size of battle as well.

TGM - battle posted, pw=aetolia

Mac - I have a question for you...
6. Seleucids (Mac) - 24,200T. Invaded Atropatene costing 500T to mobilize. The result was a draw (0% to 0%). The Seleucids then ravaged winning 200T in spoils and offsetting the 200T it cost them for the draw. As Atropatene was already in a weakened state, it capitulated to the Seleucids and became a client state. Income was 500T. Income from new client state Atropatene was 100T, but a volcano erupted in eastern Anatolia costing 100T. Ending treasury was 24,200T.
In our battle both sides just stared at each other for a 0-0 draw yet the Seleucids (attackers) won 200T ravaging and conquered the province. In my next game if TGM's Pyhrrics play for a draw too will they also ravage and conquer my province of Aetolia? Is a draw always good for the attackers?

Ian,

I hope this may answer your question.

Economics – Minor Powers
1. Minor powers do not have a treasury. If a major power chooses to attack a major power with its minor power client or province, it is assumed that the major power is providing the funds to the minor power to mobilize and attack, costing the major power 500T. In this case, the funds received due to winning the battle against the major power will be added to the treasury of that major power “sponsoring” the attack on the other major power.
2. If a minor power client state wins a battle against a major power, it will cost the major power 500T if it is a decisive loss, 200T if a non-decisive loss and a further 300T if 2 consecutive losses. In the case of a draw, both player’s major power will have a reduction of 200T from their treasury. For example, Macedon has a draw with Sparta. This will cost Macedon 200T and if Rome is playing Sparta, it will cost Rome 200T. If Sparta had won the battle, the booty from Macedon (500T if a decisive loss or 200T if not) would be given to Rome, who in this case is Sparta’s sponsor.
3. If there is a draw in which a minor power defender fails to inflict a minimum of 10% casualties on the attacker, the attacker will ravage. The result of this is that the attacker will not incur the 200T cost for the draw having offset the cost with plunder. If the minor power is a client state or province, ravaging will also eliminate its income for the 2 year turn, thus costing its patron major power that income. Two consecutive years of ravaging weaken the minor state. If an already weakened state is ravaged, it will capitulate to the attacking power and become a client.

The reason Atropatene capitulated was it already was in a weakened state due to a lost battle against the Seleucids in a previous year. The Aetolian League is not in a weakened state. The only way you could lose it is if Epirus had a major victory in the battle (win by 25% or more). A minor victory would cause it to be weakened, but no ravaging would take place. As stated under 3. above, it would take 2 consecutive years of ravaging to weaken a minor state or client state.

This 10% rule was put into place a while back to offset, to some degree, the situation where a minor state, with advantage of choosing terrain, can choose to sit in an area that cannot be reached, as occurred a few times. The goal is to have a reasonable progression of events that could lead to erosion of a state's ability to withstand attack, then finally capitulation.

If any more questions or suggestions, please let me know. Remember also that you can choose to defend with your Macedonians, as the Aetolian League is your client, and you choose terrain.

Carthage stands ready to defend the independence of Campania, so that we can swallow it at a later date.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
