Captainwaltersavage - Portuguese 1200-1319 AD with Berber (Marinid) 1244-1319 AD allies defeats TaBai - Mongol (Ilkhanid) 1230-1353 AD with Armenian (Cilicia) 1155-1375 AD allies 58:33
A hugely entertaining match against a skilled opponent. Faced with a hill and plentiful rough ground on my left I brought quite a lot of medium troops and lots of spearmen. The right flank was a wide open plain and I had hope to refuse that flank but the Mongols had other ideas. It seems we had both thought to bring lots of mediums, lights and supporting spearmen for the battle in the rough. I had just enough cavalry to contest the plains but not enough to win. TaBai was a very wily opponent and few (if any) of my stratagems on the right were successful (other than keeping his elite troops busy). I won the battle by defeating the Mongol right wing and centre. I had to use every last missile to bring his units to a state that meant I could beat them. It was so intense that it felt that I was losing the battle when my plans were failing. A victory was most unexpected - a great game indeed! The heroes of the day were the armoured spearmen that stood firm in the centre despite all that was thrown at them.

The Germans tried to play fortress Germany on a hill with an impressive amount of missile fire, but the Italo-Normans eventually were able to make successful attacks on both flanks.

The horse tribes managed to sneak the win, largely thanks to a heroic charge from some horse archers!

An interesting battle with an agressive Hannibal ! but bad luck in initial pursuit allow me to trap some good units. A very friendly game with the captain. See you next time and good luck for next game.

Captain Savage Chinese (Han) 206-100 BC defeats Nijis Xiongnu 200 BC -155 AD 44:16
An entirely predictable result with the disparity in troops types. The mounted archers shot some of the Han the archers shot lots of cavalry and then the spearmen and Han cavalry finished the job. This seemed to be an entirely unfair battle - interesting as a mirror match though. Just to see how long the Xiongnu can avoid defeat.

Captainwaltersavage - Carthaginian (Hannibal in Italy) 216-203 BC with Samnite 355-272 BC allies defeats batesmotel - Roman 219-200 BC with Greek 227-146 BC allies 46:21
Classic match-up, with Hannibal victorious once again. A huge hill in the centre of the battlefield covered in a patchwork of rough ground. The asymmetric hill meant that we both had uphill battles on our left flanks and height superiority on our right. It should have been a very balanced battle but the Carthaginians had a secret weapon. An elite unit of battle winning veterans, disguised as a unit of javelin armed light horse. They broke a unit of light horse they were fighting, chased them down into the rear of a fragmented unit of Thureophoroi, broke them, which caused the unit next to them to fragment, then charged them in the flank, and broke them as well. My right flank was then able to envelop and crush the Roman left flank and the result was inevitable. The best charge of the light brigade I have ever seen. Full credit to the Scutari who fragmented the enemy spearmen but I'll always remember that charge. It was magnificent.

harveylh - Irish 900-1049 AD defeats Stew101 - Indian Hindu North 600-1049 AD with Indian Rajput 650 – 1049 AD allies, 50-24
The terrain favored the Irish as there was a large water feature on one flank and woods on the other. The Indians deserve credit for attacking rather than playing for a draw as they could have done. Thanks for the game.
