The classic phalanxes vs Cohorts match up. A pretty featureless plain did not make it easy. A a couple of rough patches on my left and one little rough field in the centre allowed a little bit of manoeuvre. Both sides went for infantry centres and mediums for the rough. The Seleucids brought a cavalry wing for each flank and I matched this with elephants with spearmen on the right and an elephant with cavalry on the left. I was lucky enough to do sufficient damage on the flanks before the phalanxes could grind me into dust. The dancing around the legions had to do to stay alive was most notable when a group of Seleucid rabble, safe in the second rank was positioning for a flank when some pushbacks took place which allowed my Veteran Principes to smash into them. It went about as well as could be expected for a bunch of untrained levy being hit by armoured professional impact troops and left me with two units free in the rear of the phalanxes. A couple more turns and I think it would have swung back as the veteran phalanxes got to work. Great game.
