Re: Tournament News and Diary . . .
I am starting to get a few enquiries about the 2 Time Control checks this season. The schedule is as follows . . .
Sunday June 27th - First Time Control check, requires a player to have completed 1 match in each section that they have entered.
Sunday July 11th - Second Time Control check, requires a player to have completed 3 matches in each section that they have entered.
Players who have entered the Themed Event, or who have joined the tournament as a reserve, are exempt from the first Time Control check and will be given some lee-way with regards the second check (as long as they are not too far behind schedule for match completion).

Division F
Giacofa93 (Syracusan 280-211 BC) beats olddog52 (Thessalian 404-353 BC) 55-28
____
In the hilly countryside of either Thessaly or Sicily, the battle soon split in three parallel engagements between the corresponding sections of the opposing armies. The Syracusan hoplites managed to overcome their enemies on the left, thanks to greater numbers and quality, while the rest of the army kept their ground. This was finally enough to achieve victory, not without bloodshed on both sides.
Thanks to my opponent for a fun game!

kraff (Sword Brethren 1204-1237 AD with Baltic Tribes 1050-1283 AD allies) defeated SpeedyCM (Papal 1200-1319 AD with Italian (Guelf) 1200-1319 AD allies): 66-48.
The battle started quite well for the Sword Brethren, but then the tables started to turn and it got really scary. Won at the last possible moment. Thank you for the game, SpeedyCM!

Division A
Aetius39 (Kingdom of Soissons) defeats batesmotel (German Horse Tribes) 40-11
The horse tribes tried a major flanking maneuver to their left, trying to go around a decent-sized patch of forest in the center-east of the map. Part of the Roman army was in the forest, part stayed back to await the first forces flanking (their cavalry) and the rest followed the slower infantry. The end result had the Romans holding off with the cavalry, while the main damage was done with the Roman forces catching up to the horse tribe infantry and breaking many of them, getting enough to rout the army. And a good thing too, as the flanked side was starting to not look good, and things might have changed if several more turns passed. GG and thanks for playing!^^

The score doesn't reflect the battle it could have been a lot closer.

Blagrot - Germanic/Gothic Horse Tribes 260-492 AD with Dacian (Carpi) 107-380 AD allies beat random27 - Byzantine 551-578 AD with Lombard 570-649 AD allies 64%-58%
The Byzantine lancers fell quickly but the Lombard lancers both mounted and on foot covered for them, as the infantry got increasingly ragged on both sides the final tip over 60% went to a valient selection of light archers beating up on their massed counterparts. Thanks for the game.
