From Maurya to Alaric for Season 3

Post by stockwellpete »

This section will be running again in Season 3 almost certainly with a modified title once we have sorted out the 9 match-ups that we are going to use. I have got the first 10 new match-ups for us to consider. They are . . .

1. Spartans (680-461BC) v Greeks (680-461BC)
2. Kyrenean Greeks (460-322BC) v Ptolemaics (320-167BC)
3. Indians (500BC-319AD) v Seleucids (302-301BC)
4. Galatians (280-63BC) v Macedonians (320-261BC)
5. Nabataeans (260-106BC) v Jewish (167-111BC)
6. Kappadokians (260BC -17AD) v Pontics (280-111BC)
7. Indo-Greeks (175-10AD) v Mountain Indians (492-170BC)
8. Welsh (477-599AD) v Romano-British (407-599AD)
9. Turkish (552-599AD) v Sassanids (477-590AD)
10. Franks (496-599AD) v Visigoths (419-621AD)

If you like, or don't like, the look of any of these please post in this thread. Alternative historical suggestions (the more obscure the better) are most welcome. We do have a number of excellently balanced match-ups from previous seasons that we can use again (e.g. Kushans v Indo-Skythians or Carthaginians v Spanish), but I would like to get as many new match-ups as possible

Hi Pete,

even though I only had a rough look at the 9 matches, this certainly is a section I'll join.
Looking forward to season 3.

Reserve places only for Classical Antiquity . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

Here is the full army list for the Classical Antiquity league section. There are over 80 armies available to choose from and, initially, players are required to choose 4 of them (from different nations, so not 3 Carthaginian armies and a Seleucid army, for example). Please post your army selections in your order of preference in this thread.

Once players have been organised into divisions of 10 based on their playing experience and ability, they will then be allocated one of their four choices. The allocation process will give preference to the lowest rated players (see FOG2DL ratings) in each division. Only very occasionally might a player be asked to make another selection at this stage.

Players will need to have both the base game and the Immortal Fire DLC to enter this section of the tournament.

Please note that the following massed bow armies (Indian, Mountain Indian, Indo-Greeks and Nabataeans) are now available again after a substantial adjustment to their capabilities.

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)
Post by rbodleyscott » 12 Aug 2018 09:52

Note that these Sassanid lists will be getting a major revamp in the next official update, which will make them a more flexible option, including some better quality Heavy Foot (Undrilled Heavy Foot, Average, Protected, Light Spear, Swordsmen) in addition to the levy spearmen, Massed Archers and the option to have some Above Average armoured horse archers rather than all Superior.

The earlier Sassanid lists will be divided into 224-349 AD and 350-476 AD lists. The earlier list is transitional between a Parthian-style composition and the current Sassanid composition. The later list is similar to the current Sassanid 224-476 AD list, but with the additions listed above.

Re: From Zhou to Chen for Season 3

Post by stockwellpete »

There are three more match-ups to be added to our list of possibilities.

Arabs (City) v Arabs (Bedouin) has been kindly suggested to me by Gorrick. I also want to include a couple of Silk Road (v1.3) match-ups. So I am suggesting Chinese 3 Kingdoms, Wei (220-265 AD) v Chinese 3 Kingdoms Shu (221-263 AD) and Chinese Jin (317-420 AD) v Sixteen Kingdoms (304-439 AD).

So that is 13 choices altogether and we will have to reduce that to just 9. There is another week for suggestions, comments and preferences and I will finalise the choices just before I open recruitment on Monday September 17th.

From Maurya to Alaric

Instructions

The fixture list will be published in stages, the first five rounds of matches will be released on October 1st and the second four rounds on November 1st. Players are free to play matches in any order once they have been released.

Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.

For matches in this section players will select "Open Battle" and will field a "Medium" army and choose a "Medium" battlefield unless otherwise directed. Players are free to customise their army before each battle so "Default" is the correct Force Selection option. Terrain will always be "Pot Luck" unless otherwise specified. There are no exceptions to this standard set-up for a match. If a match is set-up incorrectly for any reason then it must be re-started as soon as possible.

Players will need to have the base game, the Immortal Fire DLC, the Legions Triumphant DLC, and the Age of Belisarius DLC to enter this section of the tournament. You will also need the latest version (now is v1.3) of jomni's Silk Road mod installed.

The final % scores for each player are taken from the in-battle display in the top left-hand corner of the screen and not the Final Losses screen that appears after the battle has ended where losses are adjusted for wounded and deserted troops.

Reporting the result of a match is the responsibility of the winning player. However, if you are the loser in a match and notice that the result has not been posted within 24 hours please post the result yourself. This helps to keep the league tables up to date.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.

Themed Event

Instructions

Matches in this section are played to a tighter schedule and must be prioritised above matches from other sections. Matches will generally be allowed around 14 days for completion. Unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication.

The group stage matches are single battles, while the knockout stage of the tournament will use paired games ("mirror matches") to decide who progresses to the next round.

Either player may set up the challenge in this section. Remember to PM your opponent as well as placing the challenge and password in this thread.

Where players finish with the same number of points at the end of the group stage, the points aggregate from the matches between those player will be used to decide the final places in the group table. If this does not separate the players then lots will be drawn to determine which player(s) proceed to the next stage of the competition.

Please be sure to familiarise yourself with both the Rules of Competition and the Players' Guide.

Would be a shame to miss this, even while I work on deciding what lists I want for the other entries. Alright. Count me in.
